Car insurance - NFU mutual

I'd heard great things about them but when we tried to get insurance with them they wouldn't insure HID on her own car or mine because she is under 35 (LV were the same). Needless to say that wasn't a great experience.

I was with them for a few years. As seems to happen with all insurers, prices creep up after a few years, so I switched to someone else a couple of years ago. I found dealing with them quite painless and would definitely consider switching back once my current insurer start taking the mickey.

Questions with them were a bit different. You get the usual accidents / points / modifications type questions, but it's the first time I've been asked how many shotgun cartridges I usually carry. :LOL:

<Edit>Never had to make a claim, so can't comment on that side of things

We have many policies with NFU for the farm, buildings and machinery. We no longer insure our cars with them as they became expensive, but I now believe they are more competative. As far as claims are concerned, we never had any problems or quibbles but then that might be down to the fact that we pay them about £20,000 a year in premiums!

Quotes Im getting from the usual suspects are similar so im trying to find one with the best rating for customer satisfaction (NFU came out top on a few polls).

Directline were fine until you have to use their approved repairer, who were useless and once you go off script and find your own repairer you're left to do much of the work yourself.
They whacked our premiums up so we wouldnt go back there anyway.

If you go through Gocompare who are promising to give you the £250 excess back, if needed, pretty much left with LV.

Although NFU seem to always top the satisfaction rating I have always found them to be near the top of the price rating.

Was with them for a number of years. Had one claim off them,they were excellent in dealing with it. Prompt and no hassle at all.
Got a bit expensive so moved on. Will check again at next renewal and if they're competitive again will return

In case you are unaware
NFU = National Farmers Union

I bet there are quite a few of their clients that carry them.
