Anyway, as you guys may have noticed, this thread is kind of old. I sent the insurance company the adverts showing the going price for a pristine car locally. They came and inspected my car, admitted it was mint (apart from the rear end) and paid the proper value.
Not replaced the W124, as it wasn't my main car, in fact I had kept the W124 as I'd had it from new, and just enjoyed using it every now and again. It didn't seem to be worth getting rid of as I noticed that it was not depreciating much (first of all) and then suddenly actually increasing in value.
