Capello's resigned!!

Wenger has always said that England needs an English manager, and that the only national team he would consider is France. Need to look somewhere else, but please not at twitchy. Aside from the obvious lack of tactical acumen, he is ancient, and can only ever be a stop gap. we need someone younger, who can work with the team over the next decade, may be more.

The 'must be an English manager' is flawed, think Taylor, Hoddle, Venables, McLaren etc. Mourihno can build winning teams with limited talent which is what England need. He should be top of the list......he can speak English too!

If it has to be an Englishman, give it to Holloway, he's brilliant for soundbites, has a relaxed attitude and would do as good a job as anyone else imo.

LOL Great Post , I am not sure he take the job , but who else is there thats english ,..............Capelo got a job lined up , thats why he forced a showdown , The FA wanted him out after the world cup but it would cost too much , this way everyone is a winner , got rid of the mafia cheap so now its pearce till the season ends then harry will join him for the euros and after that , well see how england do and how the press treat him , wonder if his wages will be paid into rosie 47 if he does lol
i heard arry will only take the job if its tax free

I think if we got the final against Portugal

Ha Ha Ha.

Final!? You must be having a laugh surely?

This is where all of the problems come from, expectation that England are "world class" (quite possibly the phrase I dislike the most) and "should be" winning tournaments.

You won one. 50 years ago. At home. A fine achievement granted.

Now I'm not actually an anti-English Scot by any means but talking about getting to finals etc. Sheesh.

One of the funniest things I ever read on this was in a tabloid before the last World Cup started and the first sentence was "With England due to meet Brazil in the semi final of the World Cup......" You'd think they were playing the next day yet a ball hadn't even been kicked!!!

To be fair, Hoddle and Venables were pretty good managers.

I actually thought Hoddle would be what murph is looking for and be in charge of England for a long, long time. Tactically good and, from people I know, an absolutely top drawer coach.

Shame he opened his mouth!!

Venables was like Redknapp but with (again my opinion) a bit more of a tactical brain.

Hoddle was very good until the build up to the WC in 1998 when he didn't take Gazza over the kebab incident and then started messing about with this potty faith healer larky. Then when we were there he was not playing Beckham and Owen from the start in the group games which meant we then met the Argies instead of a much easier route that Romania ended up with and the rest is history from then on.

Pains me as it does to say this but I cannot argue with much on here perhaps the most fair and sensible post from out northern neighbours!! The majority of us do not expect England to be turning up to tournaments and winning them but we certainly should not be struggling to get out of the group in the first round. This is again down to poor team selection/tactics and clueless Managers.

Still think the FA will look at Woy Hodgson. Has done it with a number of countries and if you take the Liverpool debacle to one side he has an impressive enough CV. Top quality coach and proved at Fulham he can get the best out of a mediocre side. English as well.

That said I still think the FA will look at the best man available at the time be that a Portuguese, Englishman or bloddy Martian. They need someone to pick the team up after Euro 12's and get them ready so we don't miss the World Cup. That would be criminal

Cant see Wenger putting up with all the press aggro linked to the National team to be honest.

Wenger is good with the press I dont thiink that will worry him. He's always said that he needs his day job too much, he could never have a job when he sees his team once in a blue moon. He may have done both jobs for a brief spell but it looks like the FA have their man in Redknapp.

Got to think long term now. To me our best chance of actually standing a chance is the Euro's, the 2014 WC in Brazil the heat will be stifling and our lot will not be able to cope with that. Russia in 2018 is what we should start building towards on the World cup level. Now the Euro's the temperatures are a lot more bareable and we should be looking to have new team gelled together for 2016 as I think this years will be a write off

Wenger is good with the press because he hardly gets any aggro from them. If he was Manager of the England team the headlines would be awful, Frog and all other French insults would head his way so I think then it would bother hime. As you say he will not touch the job with a barge pole anyway and who can blame him.

But I thought part of the day job was to also oversee the development of the younger players at the new 'St Georges Park'? If so, that may appeal to someone like Wenger.

Sorry to say this, but there is not an English manager out there that is good enough to take on the job, and that includes Redknapp. If it's not a Wenger or Mourinho, I would like to see Hiddink (although I actually want him back at Chelsea!!)

Roy Hodgson must be given the job as he does have over 37yrs experience and is a nice fella. He also has international management experience which is so important.

International managers only have small amounts of time to work with these players and not many people realise how tough a job it is.

Mourinho............................you're having a laugh!

Why? Has won league titles in Portugal, England and Italy, looking likely to win one in Spain, and has two European Cup wins also on his CV, not to mention other domestic trophies. Plus, everyone who has played under him raves about his man management skills and preparation against opponents. Yes, he'd be dreadful......!

Its a no-brainer.... he's easily the best man for England. Rednapp hasn't got international experience.

He has too strong a personality & the FA wouldn't be able to handle him, besides, he's too arrogant & so far up himself it's not true!
He is a great coach, for sure, but as a human he is left sorely wanting.

Slime.

So what you're saying then is that England needs an FA yes man with zero arrogance and is a thoroughly nice bloke? Well that's basically Trevor Brooking or Gareth Southgate for the job then - happy with either of those?

Every great manager / coach has a strong personality and arrogance about them - that's how they can deal with 20 - 30 players, all with egos, and with Chairman / boards of football clubs, most of which are successful businessmen with loads of cash!!

And your comment about him as a human :clap:
