Can your committee make a decision

Doesnt the fact that this kit is questionable from the bottom to the top in golf terms. The R&A have made a decision, do we think they have sat down and debated it impartially considering all data and legitimate pro's/con's considered then formulate a best course decision on their use, or do we believe they sat down with an equal number of those on either side and had a slagging match followed by a big fight followed by getting tired and making a 'sit on the fence' decision. The decision has been made I dont know why so much bleeting? Write your letters to the R&A.
Seems to me that the highlighted decisions of committes in here ARE their decisions, so they can clearly make decisions not to the liking of some as is often the case at any club.

HJN,

C'mon now, you've been around long enough to know that a committee that makes a decision which you dont like is accused of fudging the matter. If they decide on a matter in a way that you do like, then that is a decision. ;)

Golf club committees will always be accused of not doing the right thing when thay don't decide in our/my favour.

Give them a break, these are golfers just like us who are trying to run a club for the members. How many here have been on committee and seen just how hard it is to keep everyone happy, even just some of the time!

I thought that was the idea of my post, maybe I should have rephrased it, Im actually supporting the decision of a committee even if like the R&A it seems to be fence sitting.

I have come across many an occasion where the decision of committee has left me dismayed but not to the point where I want to give them a hard time, I have avoided golf committees up to now but served on other club committees so I do have an idea of the sometimes thankless task it can appear to be. ;)

Wasn't having a pop at you HJN.

Many folks give committees a hard time if they don't get things the way they want it. Until such times as they have worked on such a committee many don't realise just what is involved.

If there were'nt people willing to stand in the firing line by being on a committee then most clubs would fail very quickly.

Mind you, if the greens committee don't get the weather sorted out this spring, it's going to be a long time before the greens get into good shape this year ! ;)

HNJ, I've done my time on committees, not golf, but among others I was a school governor for 8 years.

point is that the committees are elected to make the decisions, not to sit on the fence. you don't go on committees to be popular, you go on to get the job done.

I'm getting a little confused here.

The R&A say they can be used in competition if a local rule allows it - yes?

The EGA have said they can be used in all compys. What if a club doesn't have the local rule in force but are playing an EGA compy?

Confused of Aylesbury........

The EGU have their own conditions of play for their competitions and will do what they want - they will change/amend/add local rules if they deem neccessary - it's the same when the PGA or European Tour play events at courses....

I was going to ask my club committee to consider allowing them for competition, and anticipating that they would take their lead from the governing body (the GUI) I emailed the GUI a number of months ago to find out their position.
I had a reply at the time saying they would be discussing it at their AGM, and another reply today saying they would not be permitting them in their competitions but individual clubs could allow them by local rule.

So, not much ammunition to go to my committee with.
I'm surprised the national union has totally prohibited them from their competitions, I'm sure its just a matter of time until they're commonplace.
