Teehee. That would have been impressive, Brendy. No cigar, mate.

One of these.

If you can name the courses and the holes you're a geeky golfer of the highest order.

Ach Patrick, you still didn't get the one in the O.P.
Disappointed, mate. It's the hole nearest the tee on the practice putting green at Nairn. How did you not get that? :D The clue's on the golf ball in the photo.

Otherwise, the prize for geekiness goes to you. :)

P.S. the photo at Castle Stuart was taken 1 minute after my hole in one there.

I though recognised that bit of thatch and hollow tine mark.

What did you make of the condition of Nairn?

Played Dunbar the other week and it was superb as was Castle Stuart, which I’m playing again in the morning as there’s as Ladies open on at Nairn.

Not played Spey valley this year but supposed to be in a couple of weeks, how was that?

LOL. I would've thought you were a witch if you'd got it.

We played these 4 courses on consecutive days last week, Thu-Sun;-

Spey Valley was in it's usual excellent condition during the rain, sleet and snow which is usual in Aviemore. As such the greens were slow and a bit bobbly but no matter the weather it's a superb course. Lying water meant we had to carry rather than buggy, though. Check out my YouTube video from Thursday in my signature. They're building the new clubhouse at last!!

Nairn Dunbar is the best I've ever seen it and I've been playing it for over 30 years now. The greens are amongst the best I've putted on (ever) and with the new bunkering on some holes it really has turned into a must-play course. The 14 of us all agreed.

Castle Stuart was in top nick, as you'd expect with the Scottish Open 5 weeks away. They're ready for it now but will shave the greens.

Nairn? Well, what can I say? What the feck has happened to the best greens in the UK? They were shocking for a course of that stature. By far the worst of those 4 courses. They'll need to buck up their act pronto or they'll lose a fair bit of business, I'd say.

Hoping you get good weather at Spey Valley, if that's possible.:smirk:

Well the guy thats the course manager at Castle Stuart, told me;

All the years the greens were good, they were being stressed by being cut to short, then over seeded and over fed to make them recover from the stress. 20 years of that the chickens have come home to roost. Now theres so much thatch which is coursing all sorts of other problems.

They have a big machine thats going to rip out the thatch on the practice green and relace that with sand and gravel. This is being done July/Aug. If it works they are doing them all next year, so i imagine we will have a few weeks next year with no greens!!!!

So don't plan your usual trip any later!!!!

That's interesting, Patrick. I wasn't aware of the technical reasons for their poor quality but I hope they get back to their best. And cheers for the heads-up.

Funny you say Castle S is ready now, i played there 3 weeks ago and Paul Lawrie was off behind us and he had played the day before as well and said the same, its ready now. Theres not been much growth on any of the greens really, but we've just had a few really warm days so i imag CS greens will be fast tomorrow.

The other interesting this is Dunbar Hollow tined the day after their 4 day open an the members were all hoppin mad i bet they are not now though;)

Nairns were done Mid Oct and still looked the same up till about 3 weeks ago, so you did't get them at there worst;)
