I've got a camping holiday with the family this year. I'm after some advice.

What type of stove is best / safest?

I've used the pierced gas single stoves, and army issue solid fuel hexi burners in my youth and in the TA, but mainly for cooking for one or two. I've also got a 15 year old Coleman duel fuel pressurised jobby single stove that's never been used.

Which of these would you suggest as the safest? I know which I'd rather use, but only because I've used the hexi burner the most.

With the family you'll want more than a single burner. What sort of camping are you doing?
If it's pitch up on a site with the car why limit yourself to a single burner, a twin burner with grill and a gas bottle saves a lot of pain.

That Coleman will need an overhaul before you use it - probably want to replace all the seals, mine leaked like a sieve.

Hexi's are dual purpose - keep the bugs off

My Coleman was brand new, checked all the unions, topped up with naptha, pressured it and fuel p'd from every joint - didn't get to the point of lighting it!

May I recomend the JETBOIL range!

I have had many a gas stove, and cooked many a rat pack on HEXI burners and the JETBOIL blows them all away.

Reasonable price too if your going to use it alot, ver very efficient and fast. Awsome, I carry mine in the car.
