ps - I told him to look at the mizuno mx100 as they are going for a good price but he said no. He plays of 22. Any advice appreciated :)

There is only 1 answer i.m.h.o. and it's based on science not personal preference. Get the Callaways.
The Callaways are more forgiving than the Cobras and both are more forgiving than the Mizunos.

I tried the x22's when I was looking for a new set. Wasnt to keen on the look and they felt a bit dead to me. Only one persons opinion. Never tried the cobras as they dont stock them at my club shop.

Surprised he said no the the mizzy's like, you can get them at an absolute steal now.

Cheap Mizunos are....well....cheap. Horrible clubs.
I have a big bertha 4 iron (my Mizunos originally came with rescues, which I didn't want) and it's the deadest feeling club I've ever owned. Since the days of the X-12s and so on, Callaways have not had any sweetness to them whatsoever. If you want sweetness, I reckon buy some proper golf clubs. I used my 4 iron four times today - after each shot I thought "I couldn't really say whether that was any good or not".
Middle of two greens and centre-cut on 2 fairways....what more could you ask for.

whats the answer then dave, callaways in the 1st reply and then after the last i'm unsure now :D

Sorry. I didn't mean to confuse the issue. My advice would be to get the Callaways.
What I was trying to say was 1) don't buy bottom end Mizunos and 2) Callaways don't feel right but they hit the ball right.

I would put a set of Super G.I. Callaways in my bag tomorrow (regardless of cost) but I won't, because they are way too offset for me. The long irons suit me well enough, but not the short clubs.....

I would throw a fly in the ointment and suggest trying them first as one mans meat and all that. I'd say Mizzy do some pretty good irons if he wants something to use as he comes down and there will be some good deals around. I found the X20's I had gave a very high flight which is great now but useless in Winter winds. I guess it depends on what he wants in terms of looks, playability and his budget. Ping I10's, the previous Burner incarnations are all other options

I'm with Homer on this - try before you buy.

Golf club sets are not cheap and if you buy the 'wrong' clubs you'll be stuck with them for a while or very out of pocket.

Any decent outlet will tape some up for you and let you try them on the range.

Only then should you make a choice on which are the best for you based on confidence, looks, feel and of course, how you hit 'em.

whatever he gets, get fitted. i have the x22's, very good clubs, they were the ones i hit farthest and best at fitting session. it cost 30 to get fitted(which you get back off price of clubs), better to spend 30 than hundreds on clubs you cant use???
