I had an invitation today to play at Broome Park nr Canterbury, in a pairs guest day. The weather conditions were appalling but most of the groups saw it through and I've just finished drying everything for tomorrows knock.

Anyone who knows Broome Parks 18th will agree it's a magnificent par 5 that sweeps gently round left to right with a lake in front of a smallish green and OOB behind. The main thing is that as you approach your second shot the most magnificent mansion house, once the home of Lord Kitchener, comes into full view- what a wonderful sight!

They had various nearest the pins on the course but on the 18th they had a nearest in 3 shots competition. Into a 3 to 4 club wind I managed to conjure a driver, 3 wood, 3 wood to 10 foot to take the bottle of bubbly! Possibly the 3 best consecutive hits to a hole I could enjoy every day of the week - it was worth the soaking

If the greens wern't waterlogged I felt it would have been a really good round in the worst ever conditions - thanks guys!
