Picked up one of these on Friday for £142 American Golf - they price matched Direct Golf

Played wearing it today

Upside

Didn't notice it was on
Turn it on - it finds the course and your off
No course download fees
Quick glance and it gives you front / middle and back of the green - all you need
Accurate - especially compared to the distance given at the tee box
Played 18 holes on the par 3 course plus 18 holes on the main course and the battery was all ok

Downside

Thought that i was a reasonably long driver - each time i used the measure shot distance feature found i don't drive 250+

Assumed i new my yardages from all my range work - realised that they were to a certain extent rubbish as they were off matts with range balls - assumed i was short before as i didn't know the distance to the green - wrong was short as i don't hit the club i selecting as far as i thought!

Now can't imagine playing without this but was a real blow seeing how far (or not) that i actually hit the ball.

Will swallow my pride and press on.

Disagree that it is all you need in terms of front middle and back. On a lot of courses its great to know how far a carry over water or a bunker is or where the best distance to lay up with. However in terms of an easy to use piece fo kit then I don't think for the price you can go far wrong if you do only want simple figures.

Welcome to the real world :)

That'll do for me, and that's all I want to know to be honest.
I tend to play better on a course I've never played before because the "fear" factor doesn't kick in. You don't know what's out there so just play it as you see it. As soon as I start thinking too much that's when my game goes to pot.
I'm seriously considering purchasing one of these as I always wear a watch on the course anyway and having the information I need on my wrist seems the ideal solution.
No download fees are also a big attraction.

Another big hitter joins the world of mediocrity - welcome :D

When I first bought my Skycaddie I hit a superb drive down the 18th at Willingdon. Into the wind, I really collared it. "That's got to be close on 300 yards" I thought.
Skycaddie bought me back down to earth with a big bump.
248 I think it was....
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I've just been checking these out and the website has graphics showing the screen for different functions. Distance to green, distance walked etc. One is for shot distance and the watch show 358 Yards !!!

I want one. :D :D

I just got one, great bit of kit (Although they have put the wrong green on the first at my club)
I disagree with Homer about needing all the gubbins, as long as I've got F/M/B any obstacles can be judged by sight, in fact It's better that way, allows you to work on your ball control and course management. I usually use my GPS only on my final shot to the green.
