but while delighted I am kicking myself. My putting and very short game were horrendous, I 3 putted 8 times on that round. Had real difficulty with the speed this week as they were playing a lot quicker this week due to the recent dry spell and winds, plus some of the pin placement were horrendous.
Still it is the first time I broke 100 with a competition card in hand(98) and I will avoid the +0.1 for once. Scored 34 points, but if my putting and near green chipping had been on song I would have been in with a chance of winning the thing. Some positives to take though, my driving and long irons were the best they have ever been, I seriously hope I can keep that up.

Lawrence.

Well done that man. A milestone like that is a big achievement. All you need to do now is break 95, then 90 and so on.

Well done :)

Very well done that man. dont worry about the putting, just enjoy the sub 100 in a comp, you can work on the putting for next time, so no kicking yourself!!!

well done

the really good news is that anyone can improve poor chipping and putting capability with commitment and a little effort. some might say it's v easy

Well played. Always great to break a milestone enjoy the knowledge you can do it to start shooting sub 100 score regular and it will soon be sub 90 your on here tell us about. :) :)

Thanks all. My putting is actually usually one of my stronger parts of my game, this is why I was quite annoyed at all the 3 putts. It was my lag putting that was the main problem, coupled with a lot of pins on slopes. I would rarely have more than 2 3 putts in a round.

Don't understand how you had a handicap of 25 if you had never broken 100 off the whites before. I have broken 100 off the whites in roll-ups etc but crash and burn in medals so have not got off 28. Result is mutterings about my handicap in knock-out matches and friendlies.

Interested to know if my club is unusual in setting handicaps on medal results alone as I only started playing last year and know nothing about how handicaps are administered at other clubs.

My lowest score on a handicap card was 101 I believe, but it inclused a few big scores which they round down to a double bogey for the purpose of handicap I am told. I have broken 100 many times off our yellows (they're actually blue at my club) with my lowest being 91, but when I am playing in a comp I usually go to pieces. Several times I have been 60/61 for 12 holes but then I realise I am playing well and the nerves go.

My card on Sunday for example was a 98 but included two 8's, one at a par 5 and one at a par 4. These scores would have been rounded down to 6 and 7 if it had been a handicap card and they would have counted the score as 95.

If that scoring was used by our handicap sectretary I would be off less than 28. In a medal I recorded 102 but had 2 8's on par 5's and 2 7's on par 4's and a 5 on a par 3, but the result was 'no adjustment to handicap'!

In a medal, scores for handicap are rounded to nett double bogey, so no adjustment to an 8 on a par 5 where you get a shot, and the same for the 7's on a par 4.

When you're submitting your first cards for handicap, scores are rounded to gross double bogey so the 8 (on a 5) would become 7 and the 7 (on a 4) to a 6.
