Where the hell has he sprung up from????

He's only 2 shots off the lead at the Valero Texas Open and he also had a cracking TPC if memory serves.

I remember seeing a fair bit of coverage of him on days 3 & 4 and thinking to myself, Brian who?

Is this another Brit hope we have or is he an also ran thats found a bit of form of late?

Yeah, he's been playing on the PGA tour for the past 2 or 3 years. Coached by an ex-pro over here called Gary something (cant remember his 2nd name, sometimes guests on Setanta golf). I think he's had to go to the PGA Q school just about every year, although this year he's featuring much more.

Very briefly, he was a consistent performer on the European Tour from 1997 to 2004 never finishing outside the top 80 on the OOM, with a best of 9th in 2003 when he finished 6th in The Open.

Then went to US Q School in late 2004 and actually won that event to earn his PGA Tour Card.

Since then he has successfully retained his card every year (2005 98th; 2006 113rd; 2007 71st; 2008 96th) and is obviously playing quite nicely this year.

Just out if interest, he's married to Julie, who is the daughter of former England goalkeeper, Ray Clemence.

Hope this helps

Ah, that Brian Davis :D :D

I have actually heard of him, I read an article about him a short while ago.

Just looked at his profile on the PGA website, he's doing quite well indeed this year.

His best finish ever on the PGA tour was his T5 at TPC last week, but he's also had 3 x top 20 finishes this season.

Could this be his year maybe? The way he's playing , a Ryder Cup slot is certainly there for the taking.

Well done fella....keep it up!

Never mind Brian Davis who's been around for yonks, what about Shane Lowry the amateur leading the Irish by 2 at half way.

Seriously I'm very happy for Davis who's had his problems in the past, hope he can finish the job off.

Davis has started to pop up more and more in some of the bigger events out there so I guess he has got use to the players, courses and surroundings and finally doing himself justice. Good on the guy. Gary Evans use to be out of Mill Ride just down the road from me and use to pop in my local every so often. A really nice guy
