Yes I know we all have to do it, I mean while we are taking a shot.

Do you take a couple of deep ones and hold while you hit the shot,( rather like rifle shooting)

or do you breathe normally and exhale through the swing.?

Answers on a postcard...

The swing is pretty quick and thinking about whether you are breathing in or out of holding your breath is a good way to hit a duff shot IMO.

That said, after much duffing, I figured out that I am best taking a slow breath in with the back swing - this also helps me relax and take a slower back swing - and hold my breath through the down swing.

I have absolutely no idea. If I'm faced with a tough shot or I'm getting a bit nervous I'll take a couple of deepish breaths to calm myself but apart from that I have no idea.

No idea but its a great matchplay tactic to ask your opponent whether they breathe in or out during a shot. Guaranteed to lead to a duffed shot and the hole to you. The speed I'm swinging out I don't have time to blink let alone inhale or exhale :(

Don't think about it...

Knowing me I probably don't, as that means that some oxygen will try to get to my brains...

...which is impossible as there isn't any!!! :D :D :D

Breathing in tenses the muscles, not the other way round.

I take a couple of deep breaths while focusing on where I want the shot to go, breathe out and take my shot.

They say it is a good thing when you feel nervous to alter your breathing. ie inhale slowly for 5 seconds, exhale for 5 seconds.

When we're nervous breathing is shallow and faster than usual.

Maybe concentrating on the breathing takes your mind of things for a minute and is a useful distraction.

I try to make sure I'm using the old 'In....Out' technique at the beginning of the round.

I can tell if I've had a good round if I'm still doing it when I hole out at the 18th.

It seems to be working for me so far.

I try and see how many inhales and exhales I can manage between the start of my backswing and contact with the ball.

It is excellent because it slows your swing right down and, for me, provides a very clean strike of the ball. My best is 3 inhales and exhales.

Also, instead of a colon and a comma, there is this fascinating punctuation mark called a semicolon. It should do the job.

I was told once, breathe in on the way back, out on the way forward - but I suffer memory slippage and forget, just too many things to think about, no wonder I'm going backward (and we'll draw a veil over that, thank you Andy!)

this thread screwed me for the first three holes on sunday. have the morning duty with some time to pass i thought id catch up with threads from saturday. Read this thread and thought " what do i do ", spent three holes realising if i think about breathing i balls everything else up... Darn!
