Got a chance to get a ticket for the Andre Ward fight tonight, it's on in the hotel next door. Never been to a boxing match so is it a yay nor may?
Is it a decent night out or just a bore fest?

I wish I could swap places with you. This fight will determine the P4P no.1. Two elite fighters going up against each other which is very rare to see in modern times.

The undercard is decent too. Rigo is one of the most naturally gifted fighters of the modern era. Bivol is a good operator too.

Enjoy

A bit unsatisfactory that imo. A fair amount of low blows from Ward during the bout, especially at the end. No doubt that right did hurt Kovalev though. Not sure why ref stopped it early and why Kovalev didn't manage the situation better. Away from that, I thought Kovalev was predictable and Ward the better boxer. P4P king? Unconvinced still.

I think they were boarder line and the replays weren't convincing either. I agree the stoppage was premature as he should've given him a count or let him recover if he thought they were low.

I had Kovalev up by a few but then ward just seemed to kick it up a notch.

I'd say he's P4P no.1 now.

What did you make of the undercard fight between Rig and Flores? Bizarre. Clearly Flores was hit after the bell and Flores then fakes a KO seemingly to get a DQ. Then ref declares it was a legal punch when replays show it was after the bell! Mind you Flores threw one at same time and missed. I think the bout would have ended in the early rounds with the same result anyway.

Hard for any fighter to stop throwing mid combo. Flores was definitely looking for the DQ. Same happened a few weeks ago in the Dirrel fight, although that family have previous for similar.

Flores looked ok for a second then decided to just lay down.

Just watched the fight, Ward was throwing low blows from early on and getting away with it, horrendous refereeing not to pull him earlier and the stoppage just hideous

Hollow, very hollow that victory, still no doubt the money boys will get a 3rd go lol

Shame the fight ended in such a fashion. After watching a few replays I still can't tell if some of the shots were low (the ones at the end). Kovalev being bent in two didn't help. Instead of waving it off it might have been better if the ref gave a standing 8 count. I think Kovalev was seriously buzzed though. Ward now cemented as P4P number 1 for me.

As an aside does anyone know much about a new super6 tournament? Heard Groves had signed up to it but not much else. The previous one put Ward on the world stage with his win over Kessler.

Agree with this. Hard to tell where they landed as Kovalev was bent forward. I think the body shots were taking effect and the stoppage was inevitable. Doesn't excuse the ref not giving a count and a chance for him to recover.

Didn't realise Flores faked the knockout, it was hard to tell as he was directly behind a corner and they only showed 1 replay of it on the screens. One thing was for sure, it was waaaay after the bell and I got the impression the majority of the arena didn't agree with the decision.
The place went bananas when Ward got Kovalev in trouble, it was an amazing atmosphere throughout the fight.
The quality of heckling during the early fights when the place was empty was superb, it was worth the admission price alone 😂

Yup. They didn't show many conclusive angles. I did see one angle eventually that definitely hit him square in the cherries - that was the final shot. Earlier in the rounds there were low blows that seemed to be borderline yet no replays.

Serious right though from Ward and no doubt Kovalev was in trouble. I'm not interested in part III as Kovalev had promised to whip Wards rear in the last two bouts and frankly he hasn't.

There were 3 or 4 fights which were ended abruptly, 1st one I bent down to pick up my beer, looked back up and the ref had stopped it, losing boxer was going off it and quite obviously not hurt at all. Another ended with a mystery rib injury to one fighter who didn't appear to be injured. Great entertainment though, even the missus thoroughly enjoyed it.

Seen it just now on SSN and it looked very bizarre. Flores definitely looked fine and then decided to go and lie down and have a nap. The shot was definitely after the bell but Flores was chucking leather at the same time too.

Hope ou yo are returning the favour for Missis Bee and taking her to the best P4P knitting world finals. 👍

How good is Bivol? Unbelievable talent, one to watch that's for sure.

The right definitely hurt Kovalev and sent him on the back foot immediately but that very last punch before the stoppage was below the belt. Should have never been stopped, 8 count at the very most.

As for the bizarre ending to Rig and Flores it's a tough one to call. Possibly a no contest could have been called but as Johnny Nelson says Flores deserved the outcome after trying to deliberately obtain the win via Rig being DQ'd.
