Hi all -trying to get my golf mad son into reading a few more books (yes, I know, snowball, hell etc) - anybody know any novels that have some kind of golf theme/link that may help?

Golf in the Kingdom by Michael Murphy
The Legend of Bagger Vance by Steven Pressfield

Mark Frost's The Match, while not exactly a novel, is a cracking read. As is his book about Francis Ouimet's U S Open Victory, The Greatest Game Ever Played.

Skinners Round by Quintin Jardine is a decent read........Murder on the golf course stuff set around a Pro Tournament.

Thursdays Legends by same author is about an elderly 5 a side fitba team where one of the characters is based my brother.
In real life Quintin was one of about 10 guys who met every Thursday night for over 30 years in North Berwick for a kick about.

Thanks - great suggestions (though Goldfinger is pushing the theming to the limits). Nice Jumpers looks bang on - it could almost be about my son - but will check out the others as well. Any other suggestions gratefully received.

You could try the "Lee Ofsted Mysteries" by Aaron & Charlotte Elkins - a series of crime novels set around golf in the USA. Not especially my cup of tea but they are based around golf like the Dick Francis books were on horse-racing.Lee Ofsted being a lady golfer. Probably worth a read through first to check suitability for the lad.
