I think it has been 4 maybe 5 weeks now where rain has ruined a good days golf. Club championship 36 holer due tomorrow and I was looking forward to it as I am striking the ball grand at the moment.
Today was a team competition and even when two of the Guys walked in after 9 and 12 holes, two of us stayed out, no real chance of winning, just to get as much time on the course as possible. Ended up shooting 78 in lashing rain and topped it off having missed a few chances of birdies all day, sliced my drive down 18th across two fairways and into the rough. Stood under the gaze of the clubhouse I managed to hit an 8 iron to 6 feet and holed it for birdie. Mike Tyson couldn't have knocked the smile off my face,I was soaked, clubs were soaked, carrybag saturated and yet I was happy walking off the last hole.
I read Jezz's update that where he was playing in the first leg of his comp, it was dry and even had a glimpse of sunshine. With just the Irish sea between our courses today, you have to love the great british weather. To top it off, sat here in the kitchen at home typing this on my phone to the sound of more rain, club champs tomorrow will with be off or snorkels will need to be issued.
Anyone else games ruined by the weather today?

Bit of a diffeent experience! Was not expecting to play today as we are having windows fitted - but I left them to it and sneaked off for a round - in shorts and tee shirt! Haven't played at home for a month and course was mint - but my game was sh*te! There were 21 of us out - play for overall and a game in your groups - as it was 3s we played American (share 6 points per hole) - one guy took front, back and overall - on 18 I sliced one into the bushes so 3 off the tee - hooked it into rough - but got a 5 iron to the green - the guy leading the back was not doing great and was just off top left not too far from the flag in 3 and the other guy in pole position on the green - I figured I had to hole the 60-70 foot put to hopefully tie with the other guy on a 5 if he got up and down (and share a point) - that would have made a 3 way tie on 18 for the back 9 - I sunk the put - biggest I can remember making - then the guy who was tied with me on 17 chipped in!! The other guy made a par - so I lost! What a wste of massive put! Great fun game in the sun - lost £20 but it beat staying in and babysiting the window fitters! As the other guy who lost said - "I am playing sh*te but it beats shopping with the wife"!

CC07,Id say most clubs in NI will be under a few inches of rain before the night is out. Puddles were starting to appear as we were finishing.
PNW, any day of golf is better than shopping, even if you had to hack it round with one hickory club!

Hate when that happen especially if your looking forward to it we had cracking day here in the north east of Scotland with a slight breeze . The decent form continues with a +1 in a Bogey comp so a wee cut back to 10 is in the offing.

Galgorm had pros day today, we made it to 12, then it just got too silly! my gear is all drying out now, course should have been closed i think. I am meant to have my knockout singles semi tomorrow, but i cannot see how the course can be open, the greens were starting to hold water at 4pm, so by the mora we'd need boats, and inflateables! gutted!!

Same here, if our Club champs are on, the squeegees will need to be out again. Fairways and bunkers were grand, just the greens, only one hole had any trace of water in the cup though so it could soak in but it would take a lot of wind and no more rain, not looking likely!
Got my stuff out drying just in case.

Keep it up Steve, how many more qualifiers have you got left to try for more cuts?

2 possibly 3 more Wednesday sweeps mate, am working when the October medal is on,so here's hopeful, good luck for tomorrow if you get a game.

i think thats all our qualifiers done now based on the weather, so roll on next season i guess!! :(

the missus lit the fire the night so i have me shoes in front of it! lol

Lucky dog, we have mid weeks but they are only 9 hole non qualifiers so 2 club champ rounds if it happens tomorrow then the greens get hollow tined during the week, then a yellow tee stableford comp next week so I doubt it'll be a qualifier. this year has flown in, I think I missed 4 weeks this year which didn't help.

How is your course handling the dodgey autumnal weather so far? if it wasn't for the heavy rain soaking the greens here, the course would be in brilliant nick.

The course has been excellent mate, even today, the greens were slick, if the rain would subside it would be fantastic, but i think we'll be in a similar situ, last comp next saturday, then I reckon the hollowtine will happen, oct has a few pairs comps then winter league starts, so I very much doubt my handicap will change before next year! :(
