I have loads of sets of blades. Love them.

Next set I go for will be titleist ap2. I would like a little more help on 200-160 yard shots. I don't get that from my oul blades.

Head needs to look compact with minimal offset.

The new AP2's certainly feel smaller than my 710's. Would you class the AP2 as a blade? I don't know what to call them to be honest.

I recently changed my nike pro combos to the vr/tw blade ,
i also have a set of vega raf-cm's sat in the cupboard

I will stick with the vr's for a season and see where i end up.

No I wouldn't.

Blades make the game marginally more difficult and are really only for the elite player or people who like blades. I have had them in my youth and wouldn't want them again. Tried about 3 years ago and they were fine when you hit a good one but not much fun if you were having a bad day.

Many moons ago I learnt with blades as that's all there was.

When I came back to golf I had small cavities, but had no feel with them around the greens with chips and bump and runs so bought a combo set.

I didn't get on with the shafts in those so went to be fitted blind and ended up with blades again, though I wouldn't call them real blades as there's a lot of meat behind the ball.

I thought about another combo set but I hit the 4i blade version as well if not better than the cavity at my fitting.

No doubt I might be better off with a little help, but I fall into Snelly's latter category. I just like using them.

In a word .... No.

In more than one word ... The golf ego in me would love too, but the realist in me enjoys the consistency of strike I get with cavity backs

I don't feel I've earned my stripes yet to play blades. Always been told they were reserved for the better player in single figure HC. Only because my old playing partner who played off 6 had them.

Horses for courses though I have a PP who is off 5.4 and uses ping G25 irons, too me they look like sledgehammers. Another not regular PP is off 21 last time I seen him who plays MP-69's and strikes them as good as anybody I have ever played with, just his massive high slice with the driver and short games woes that kill him from dropping handicap. I asked him why he chooses these type of clubs and in his mind is helps concentrate on the striking of the ball and he seems to play better because he has too. Who am I to tell him otherwise :)

Like anything try something out, if they don't work as well as you would like them stick to what you have and get some lessons to help strike the ball better; return to the question 6-12 months down the line.

bought a set of 714Mb irons. Could strike them lovely, but was a whole club (maybe even a club n' half) shorter.
True blades (not muscle backs) are for the pro's and sadists IMO.

Played blades of one type or another for years. Prefer them immeasurably round the greens and from 170 yds in although they become harder work beyond that.

Tried some cavities a few years ago as an experiment and whilst they were excellent quality I loathe the design and feel.

Many golfers miss out on them because they convince themselves they can't hit them.

Can't use blades. Not like the good old days (use to love my old Maxfli Australian blades). Have bought a set of Ping S55's which I have been able to use better than expected but prefer the protection of the cavity on my I25's

So, I have always had a bit of a yearning for using blades, more so over the past few months.

This weekend, I am going to borrow a set of MP-67s from a friend of mine, to see how I get on, to see if it would quash the love, or whether it will increase it dramatically. I think the line of thinking being that we play the game for fun, so why not use something that is attractive to look at etc? I get the 'performance' benefits of not using blades, but if we aren't being paid to play the game, does it matter?

The question is then...would you use them?

I use MP4s and think they are great clubs, and so long as you get the right shaft, playable for the average decent golfer.
