Black faced drivers, woods, hybrids and wedges

I recently bought a MD Superstrong F7 fairway wood. Unused the club looks stunning however after several rounds the club face is starting to show marks on the club face where the black anodising is becoming scratched from dirt on the ball and where I have taken a few divots.

The club istelf is superb and as good as my Callaway Diablo Tours, although the head on the 7 is oversize.

I know a few other forum members who have the TM woods and drivers have experienced similar problems so my question is, when you next purchase, would you buy another black faced club or will you opt for a brushed steel/titanium finish?

They do start to look "used" quite quickly. I've had a few black faced clubs and after a while they can look tatty.
I don't think the wear is any different to a silver face, just more noticable.

As above, they all do the same. Its a shame really because they always look better IMO but then it does my head in when the look rubbish so quickly.

Just pay more attention to cleaning the ball where the option is available, also old scuffed balls will hold dirt abd grit in the scuff, when the get tatty junk them.

I do think if their using black in the face then they should make sure the coating will atleast last 2/3 seasons before it starts to mark

The faces on my R11 driver and 3 wood both look pretty scruffy now. That's obviously only on the sweet spot though because thats the only bit I hit the ball with.

Put another spin on it, for Christmas 2010 my trusty wench (don't tell her I call her that pretty please ) purchased me a pair of mpt10 wedges in satin black. Now these wedges are sexy, very sleek and I'm 100% chuffed with them, but after 1 round they lOoked 3/4 years old at best. Now to say I was let down by this was an understatement but mizzy suggested the cover is designed to wear. If I'd know this I'd have opted for the chrome finish.

Yes the paint issue does not effect the functionality of the club, but I take pride in my gear, and like others if I spend good money on them, then I expect it to look good aswell as perform.

I found that my MP10 black satin wedge has worn down a lot, but still looks pretty good and works well.

My diablo octane black face is holding up well after about 12 rounds with only very small, 2mm tops scuffs, hardly noticeable.

I agree about the black finish clubs looking only nice when new

At least with a chrome finish club you can polish the chrome and keep them looking like new

Sadly the makers are putting finishes on clubs to sell them as the finish makes no real difference

For the people who have posted saying it doesnt matter what they look like probably havnt purchased new clubs for a while.

Also keep them looking good and the re-sale value will be higher

I suppose that the only issue to me would come when I look to sell them on or trade in. A chrome finish can be polished up to look like new and can help the sale or help get a better price. The worn black finish can make the club look older or in a worse condition than it actually is. In the future I would probably stick with chrome as the finish has no impact on performance so would rather have a club that keeps its looks for more than a week

Ok so you have purchased new clubs, black finish on faces ? if so do they look like car boot fodder already ?

I've had the same problem on my TM Superfast hybrid but to be honest, the bigger fear is the white crown getting chipped. You can't see the marked face behind the ball but looking down on a chiped head could put me off. So far so good and a quick wipe over with a baby wipe after every round and its still shiny

Surely black heads are as easy to chip as white heads. Annoys the hell out of me that I chipped the head of my G10 hybrid on one of the many occasions when I lost the head cover.

my titleist 910 has quite a few marks on the face, luckily its a nice looking middle mark
