Just watching the football on Sky and both teams, quite rightly, are wearing black armbands- or at least one is. Crystal Palace are wearing pieces of black tape. They are not the only team to do this, many others in lots of different sports seem to play a bit of lip service to the whole ‘paying respect’ act. I find it extremely disrespectful to try and show respect with what is commonly known as bodge tape.
Am I alone in thinking this?

I can't see a problem. They've made the effort to do something. Doing nothing is when there's a problem.
They have barely made an effort, can’t be bothered to get real armbands so just made do with tape - maybe doing nothing would be better

Not quite the same but millions of Poppys have just been sold and worn - they're a bit of coloured paper and a couple of bits of plastic...
It's what it signifies that matters not what it actually is.

Agree to a point, but I still think the tape instead of an armband is wrong

Maybe the kitman forgot the armbands and rather than not wear one they have improvised with black tape.

You beat me to it.

When faced with something you aren't happy about, ask the question "why." Why is it only gaffer tape? What does it signify? What does not wearing it signify? Better half full than half empty.

You've obviously already made your mind up...................... but wouldn't you feel a little foolish if it turned out someone has had a right rollocking for forgetting the armbands, and that the club has a strong sense of thankfulness for the sacrifices... equally, you may be right.

I think the black armbands is playing lip service. Minutes silence/minutes applause and get on with it, the armbands is unnecessary IMO.

I have a much bigger issue with the muppets in the Palace end that disrespected the silence.

Must be lots of forgetful kitmen around............

I've attended a match where the away team had to play in the Col U away kit because their kitman had forgotten to bring their kit that didn't clash with our blue and white. Sometimes these things happen and a solution has to be found. I'm happy to wait to hear the full story to make my judgement rather than jumping to an early conclusion.
