bit of fun happy gilmore style! oh and free golf balls!

Well the way I see it is if you look like a golfer you might stand a chance of playing like a golfer.

You mate, don't look like a golfer.

I guess you must be dressed as a snob right now as your acting like one. I see the logic in what you have written there.

That is a brilliant post. Leave the debating to the grown ups fella.

Yes fantastic reply, thought I see your logic in what you was saying. Then you respond with a grown up debate reply. Very well done squire I can just imagine the image you set for new members. Do you still use proper woods?

My apologies, took offence at the first sentence, assumed the second was sarcasm.

I set quite a good image for new members, dashing good looks, nicely ironed attire and mustard short game!

See below for my current equipment.

And I still take offence at the first sentence, I don't know what a snob dresses like but I'm not going to tell you what I'm wearing now because if we go down that road we'll definately get locked :o

I was hoping you could tell me so I would know for future reference

I just disagreed with the whole if hes wearing a football shirt he cant play golf. If he stuck to the rules of the club hes done nothing wrong. Its where golf could improve is the helping of others not just having a go at new members.

Unfortunately I have experienced this recently. Over some OOB on one hole but not on the other hole coming back, the lady in question in front of her playing partner who wasnt a member tried to make me look silly by saying I think you will find your OOB over here. I kindly explained to the lady that I feel I am not OOB due to the local rule stating that OOB is only for the 5th hole not the 6th. What astounded me most of all was her reply of sorry I am only a member here. Which I replied so was I and that its on back of the scorecard about the local rule.

Now if that had of been some suspecting new member what in her actions would of made me want to join that club. No offer to help just a sarcastic comment which probably wouldve had me on my way at the end of the round and said I dont want to join that club.

It does my nut in that people will have a go at others on here and slate how other people play or what they use, rather than advise them on other methods. Golf is meant to be enjoyed by people so they in turn will play and then will learn about the game and the traditions as such, if people dont have fun then they will not take up the sport which will see the demise of golf.

Well she sounds like most the members at my course.

Your right golf is about fun, everybodys fun. I refer you to an earlier post of mine about self-discipline and so on. If people can't get the basics right like dressing properly then they definately aren't going to do the more complicated pieces of etiquette like repairing pitchmarks and replacing divots and tapping down spike marks.

Hence, they are spoiling my fun.

regardless of what i choose to wear i always repair my pitch mark,s hell i even make a point to check the green for others that havent been repaired by previous players, that goes for my divots ect you shouldnt judge a book by its cover...

Didnt think you was allowed to repair spike marks? Learn something new everyday as they say. I cant speak that everyone did this when they first played but I used to be excited about a pitch mark and to find it and repair it. A youngster would be excited to find it and find where there ball is and try and measure the "spin" they got. I wish everyone repaired pitch marks but young or old football t shirt or tuxedo not everyone does.

I knew you were going to say that. Unfortunately there is no way I can prove otherwise having never played with you. All I can say is that there is a society that plays at my course annually and for some its their only round of the year. On occasion I have played in the afternoon after they have finished and I have to do 4 pitchmarks on every green and rake the bunkers that they have visited. Most of these 'golfers' wear jeans or trainers or both and I have seen the occasional football top. Now we do have a dress code but since we have no starter or pro shop and the course is closed for their visit it often doesn't get picked up.

If I were to put a poll on this forum with a picture of you in your ManUtd shirt and a question: Pitchmark repairer and bunker raker, yes or no? I'm pretty sure I know what the result would be. This wouldn't be snobs voting on pre-conceptions, it'd be golfers voting on experience.

Tapping them down after you've holed out is fine. Just consideration for those behind you.

Well there you go I have learnt something new. I wouldnt usually incase you play 2 rounds in a day for example.

I think what should be said is dont judge a book by its cover. Its the same as what the BBC done with the hoodie even though its a comfortable piece of clothing it become if you wear a hoodie you are basically a chav.

Someone said earliar they wouldnt wear cricket wear to play football. Theres not many sports you actually wear full on clothing for practice of sports. I dont wear whites when I go cricket training. I dont wear shin pads when football training or warming up.

Dont get me wrong I think it looks smarter when people wear polo shirts tucked in for golf but I wont judge someone for having a shirt untucked etc.

How ever I would love to picture a lot of peoples faces if on the first tee next time you play your playing partner decides to take a run up at the ball?

Playing 2 rounds in a day is irrelevant. What goes on in one stipulated round has no bearing on the other. So you can crack on and have a practice putt on the greens if you like. As long as you have already holed out on that green.

In normal life I don't usually judge people by what they are wearing but my experiences on the golf course have led me to make assumptions about people on the course based on their dress. These turn out to be correct 99/100.

All I can reply to that is I am glad you are getting to know all these members at your club and I hope you guide them not lecture them and then theres no complaints either way.

Well we have a small membership at our club so it's easy to know most people. Although I met a member last night for the first time who thought it was fine for 3 golfers to be playing out of 2 bags.

Now I'll standby for a load of abuse about bags being irrelevant or something...

Richie, I bet you are glad you posted that video !!! :D :D

I'm glad he did. I've had my eyes opened today. I can't beleive how many people think that it's acceptable to wear football shirts on a golf course, wether there's a dress code or not!

Maybe it's because I wear a uniform for a living, I'm used to looking smart.

If thats the rules that its one bag per person then thats fine. How ever someone who is not breaking the rules I dont see how they can be moaned at.

See my post on the other thread. Does it state at your club that you cannot wear fancy dress?

Can't believe the grief the OP is getting about his dress. The Happy Gilmore shot is questionable, I wouldn't be happy if the group in front were up to this kind carry on.

If the course lets you wear a football shirt etc, they why not. If you want to play anywhere decent the dress accordingly!!

To cast doubt on the OP’s ability based on his appearance is quite frankly elitist nonsense

I'm with you, it worries me that we are even debating this.

Football shirts and taking happy gilmore swings on the golf course? FFS this has nothing to do with snobbery it just shouldn't happen - end of.

Well legal swing and stuck to the rules of the golf course regarding clothing. I agree why are we debating this?
