• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

bit of fun happy gilmore style! oh and free golf balls!

Nothing to do with snobbery IMO, but all do to with etiquette and respect.

And wearing trousers and a polo shirt means you are more respectful and more mindful of etiquette??? You are making a grand assumption there are you not?

Why does wearing a football shirt mean your disrespectful, please explain.

No really, having played golf on a variety of different public and private course, generally in my experience, the worst behaviour comes from the people that are not dressed "properly". In the video clip it shows two guys wearing football shirts trying a happy gilmore style shot, hardly respectful of the course or others round about is it?

I like donning my clobber for a round and agree with regards those that don't tend to not give a crap, obviously this course is only after the £££ therefore probably don't even care about dress codes & etiquette

Sorry, am i misreading this? Do you think it is ok to wear a football shirt on a golf course :D

Providing they play by the rules of the course then, yes I'm ok with it. But provided they play by the rules.

If a rule is a certain dress code then I expect people to abide by that, if no rule in place then wear what you like.

I've never saw any rules at all the golf courses I've played stating you can't do a happy Gilmore style shot. A lot of people on here need to lighten up.

there isnt any rules againest the happy gilmore type of swing,i remember seeing a video of a pro golfer doing it and getting slighty more distance doing so reason he doesnt do it everytime is because of consistency

and i agree guys do need to lighten up, it was a bit of fun, and my dress has nothing what so ever to do with lack of respect or ettiquete

Nothing at all against it in the rules but if you're going to moan about the state of the tees then you shouldn't do it, the first attempt comes down about a foot behind the ball and takes a big lump of tee away.

who's moaning about the state of the tee's? i said its the only thing that lacks there was no moaning on my part, if i didnt like it wouldnt play there.... i'd say other posters have moaned in this thread!

and the the point of impact on my friends first try was repaired before we left the tee box, as any other divot would of been regardless of swing type or club used....

Well the way I see it is if you look like a golfer you might stand a chance of playing like a golfer.

You mate, don't look like a golfer.

Absolute crap that statement.

Really? Golf is all about mindset. If you are dressed like a chav your not going to be in the right frame of mind to shoot your best score. But if you've taken the time to dress yourself like a golfer it prepares your mind and you stand a better chance of playing better.

Golf magazines are forever going on about the 15th club, this is all part of it.

my pb is 101, not great but not to bad considering i only took up the game a month ago

I rest my case.

wait i cant be a golfer because my pb is 101 and only started to play a month ago? dont recall either where i stated i was a golfer, your logic is stupid as is your reasoning, get a grip man

I can't be arsed going on with this, you clearly haven't had the right people introduce you to the game and therefore you are clueless. It's not your fault.

Oh lordy lord lord, I cant believe I missed all this. Richie, from what I can see you wear footy tops on the course, have no handicap and have not long taken the game up, which you may well quit before long. Round our way, we call those, hackers.
If you want to be a golfer be it seriously competitive or out for a bit of social fun and join a club, best not show them that video.

no no no i get you if i had worn trousers and a polo, i would of broke my PB i get it its that simple!!!

beggars belief that you try to analyse my state of mind with regards to what im wearing, so next time because im dressed like a golfer i will think like a golfer and break my PB on each outing!! cant wait!.....

performance is based on a lot of things, i was comfitable in how i was dressed, i was relaxed, because of the nature of the round that will help me to shoot better scores than wearing trousers and a polo when the rules dont require me to do so
