Ok but not a course for a special day out. Condition not the greatest either.

Swinley never good in the winter, great once dried out in the summer though.

Maybe try Isle of Purbeck if going Bournemuff direction. Cheapish green fee in Sunday PM I would imagine.....

Played the Isle of P before. Nice course, very reminiscent of Crowborough Beacon but I was oinking it around off 23 at the time so didn't really do myself justice around there.
Got to be honest, Parkstone and Broadstone are sounding favourites at the moment, spliced with a stay at a B&B.
But like I say, anything I do will be end of May beginning of June time.

Sunningdale is in a different league to all mentioned so far and although expensive, represents fantastic value for money.

If I wanted to play 36 holes at a course then there is nowhere better in the UK than Sunningdale for a special occasion. Both courses are absolutely brilliant. In fact, everything about the club is fantastic and you should remember that it is only money, and allow yourself to be treated to the best available option.

Sunningdale is world class golf and you are only 60 once.
 
If you can get hold of the Jan edition of national club golfer, it has its top 100 for under £100. Might be some ideas there .

Appreciate what you are saying Snelly but I am not prepared to pay that sort of money, no matter how good the courses are... and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that they are as good as you say they are.
For one thing I would hate to go there and play on my own. Finding somebody else who would be prepared to pay that sort of money to accompany me would be nigh on impossible. Certainly none of my usual playing partners would be prepared to do so.
The other thing is that I would feel a right prat going up there and playing like an absolute bell-end. It's bad enough paying £50.00 on a green fee and playing like a nonce. To pay six times that amount and spend the day digging for England would leave rather a bitter taste in my mouth and would probably lead to a cardiac arrest!!!

I played the New at Sunningdale as a birthday gift and thoroughly enjoyed the course and, although it was expensive, it was special. I didn't have too much trouble finding 3 people to pay a green fee with me.

Rob just forget about the money, the missus is paying, admittedly it might be coming out of your account anyway, but if my missus suggested a day at Sunningdale to me I'd bite both hands off. I . Got to be two of the best inland courses in the world and I would love to play there.
Whats to say you wouldn't play like a bell end wherever you go !. You might just rip it and have the best days golf ever
Im sure a couple of guys on the forum would be mad enough to want to spend a day with you.

Decision made!!
As much as I would have liked to have played Sunningdale, I think 36 holes in one day around there would have seen me off, plus, (as mentioned a couple of times above), I had a problem in my head justifying the cost involved.
So a two night/three round trip to Dorset in June is on the cards with 18 holes each day planned for Broadstone, Parkstone and Ferndown golf clubs.
All three courses get rave reviews, all are heathland (which I was after) and all will be "new to me".
With the kind offers I have had for "guest rate" green fees from people down that way, even with the cost of overnight accommodation in a Bournemouth hotel, it should work out slightly cheaper than the day at Sunningdale, and I get to play 18 a day, which will be better for my old trotters!
Just a couple of loose ends to tie up to work out an exact date, but as I say, mid June is on the cards. The weather should be good then and the courses will be in great condition.

Rob played all three, Parkstone being my favourite. Then I've only played Ferndown and Broadstone a couple of times. Couldn't decide between the two. You'll have a cracking trip playing them :D

I've heard that Parkstone is superb, and have spent ages browsing their website. Looks my kind of course.... not too long and very scenic.
Broadstone looks the "monster" of the three, but I'm sure my hosts will take pity on me and play off the yellows!!
Ferndown looks pukka as well. Hope it all works out okay, itinerary looks great.
Missus just said "get a total price and I'll give you the money".
