Hi,

Im moving from Ireland to Birmingham for university next month and am wondering does anyone know of any society's or clubs looking for members?

Thanks

Hello!

Do yourself a favour. Get on touch with Edgbaston G.C. and get on the list for membership. Presuming you are 18, it shouldn't be too pricey.

Cheers Dave, will check it out. Im 25.

Ahh. This could be an issue.

Edgbaston

and Moseley

http://www.moseleygolfclub.co.uk/

might well have tiers of membership. I was a member at Moseley but had to forgo moving up to the next age bracket (25?) because I couldn't afford it.

t.b.h. a lot will depend on how much you want to play.

For not-much-money, you could "join" a municipal club.

I was a member here

http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateContent?CONTENT_ITEM_ID=2613&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=7

and would recommend this course highly.

The courses close to the uni are

Harborne (not very good nine hole muni)..sorry Harborne.

or you might be able to get over to this

http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateCon...7&MENU_ID=0

on a bus or car.

If you end up doing the muni thing, Birmingham has the best municipal golf courses in the country. I personally like Pype Hayes

http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateCon...p;MENU_ID=12412

and could safely say that the pro there (my old pro from the other course) will help you out generally with understanding the "scene". It's a great place for muni golf.....none of the rubbish associated with P&P private businesses.

Thanks Dave, thats a big help. Pype Hayes sounds maybe like my thing. Money is def an object. Id like to play a couple of times a wk and one of them beibg some kind of competition as I want to work on my handicap. I will prob be traveling by public transport too. I did see that the Belfry (2 out of the 3 courses) have some kind of student season ticket for about £430 but that would be the higher end of my budget.

I too can recommend Pipe Hayes, great little Muni course. Are you actually at Birmingham University, Aston, or the old Birmingham Poly, and if so, what campus, as that could all make a difference (also went to Poly in Brum, Perry Barr).

I'm at BCU, but my faculty is in Millennium point in the city centre and I will be living in the city centre too.

I'll def check out Pipe Hayes.
