Big decision!!!

I am thinking of moving to another club BUT????

The club I am thinking of moving to is more suited to my game, I enjoy the course and always score well there. It is open for the majority of the year and is 20 minutes away from where I live.

Trouble is with with the club I am a member is that it is closed for 3 months a year in the winter time but I have loads of mates there and is only 3 minutes away from where I live.

I have been a member there for a long time but am worried that the grass is not greener on the other side!!!

What do I do??

Go for it, I'm doing the same this year, so go. Never say never, if it dont work then you can always go back. If you enjoy your golf more there it's a no brainer. I joined a new club a few years back and I'm never stuck for a game and there's tons of new mates waiting there you dont know yet. :)

on a similar train of thought... my eldest has played for the same football team for 8 years (since little league), he is of a decent standard and so left to play in a higher division as he felt it would bring him on more. After half a season he left and went back to his old team as he missed his mates and the banter.

There is nothing better than having good friends/mates for banter and although new friends can be made it is never the same imho. In the 3 mnonths break arrange away days, take a few lessons and plan it into your golfing year then you wont miss the 3 months closed season so much

I definately see what you are saying but it really bugs me to pay for something that is not available for 3 months of the year then having to pay again elsewhere when a course I really enjoy playing is only 20 minutes tops away from where I live and open for play in full and always in great condition.

Like I said the only thing that is holding me back is the mates I have at my present club.

This thread has really given me lots of different variants of should I or not leave my present club and that is the very reason I started the thread...cheers all and keep your views coming :) :) :)

I would change Clubs.

I hate paying fees when you can only play for 3/4 of the year. Once your mates see how good the new course is (especially in Winter), they will very probably join you in changing clubs

I'd say go for it too, a change is as good as a rest as they say! What's wrong with inviting your mates there for a game?

I have a course a few minutes down the road from me and know quite a few people who play there. But I wouldn't join, even though it's a lot cheaper. It's a soulless place and not much goes on there. I much prefer to put my hard earned into somewhere that's a bit more lively and friendly. The course I'm at now is a 40 minute drive away, which isn't a problem to me as only play at weekends apart from the summer evening roll ups.

As has been mentioned, if it doesn't work out you can always go back or even try somewhere else. Also, you don't know if the grass is greener if you don't try it. :)

I've moved to a new course this year too. I'm still a member at another course that's 35 miles away and always tend to play there over the winter anyway as its links.

The local club I was a member at is only around the corner but is parkland and gets very wet in places and finding the course getting easier and easier to cater to the high handicappers who now make up most of the membership.

My new club is 15 miles away and links, so you can play it in winter. It also has great practice facilities and a 9 hole course, one of the main reasons for joining as hoping to get Mrs148 to play more.

I don't know about not being able to play in winter, lets face it, the last 2 years winters have been pretty bad so not many have had a game since November anyway. I'm sure the course being closed for 3 months would make a real difference to the condition when you do start playing again. Castle Stuart up here closes for 4 months and their course is head and shoulders above everywhere else condition wise come mid march when they open again.
