Big Ben - Good Grief

Not heard it for the last four years and wouldn't of heard it for the next four years so not bothered.
Mark my words, when it cracks up in four years someone is gonna moan they like the peace and quiet.

These will be the city folk who moved to the country and back to Westminster for the peace and quiet, in 4yrs time they'll moo-n about Westminster's very own cock-a-doodle-doo.

Reminds me of my old neighbours who were city slickers who moved to the country and bought the house next to the clubhouse.

They did not bargain for the 6.30 am slamming of car doors and the shout of 'HELLO ALBERT, HOW ARE YOU THIS FINE MORNING'.
Or the 11.30 pm drunken argument in the car park about the safest place to stand on a tee. Followed by the slamming of car doors and tooting of horns.

What do you call folks who gathered around the Elizabeth Tower yesterday to take photographs of the tower when Big Ben was binging it's final bong for fours years? Bell Ends...;)

Sad to see BB going silent but a necessary evil. Not sure we needed another thread with a political slant on it as per the OP and the May dig in the last paragraph

The OP made the point that it has been the politicians and our PM who have made something of this when they should be getting on with matters more worthy of their undivided attention. I frankly don't give a tinker's cuss about Big Ben going silent for four years - whilst accepting that there are many who do seem to find it upsetting.

Unless they are involved in the repairs, I can't see how expressing a few opinions is taking up much of their time. Perhaps they made them when they were off the clock.:)

So the bell won't chime, big deal, it's hardly the end of the world and yet you have one stupid MP saying on national news the chime is the sound of freedom, for crying out loud its a ruddy bell and tower, more MPs whimpering on about tradition.

Four pages and no on has mentioned the cost of this, and don't get me started on the cost of renovating the HOC. This should be knocked down and re-done in breeze block for a tenth of the cost!
