The OP made the point that it has been the politicians and our PM who have made something of this when they should be getting on with matters more worthy of their undivided attention. I frankly don't give a tinker's cuss about Big Ben going silent for four years - whilst accepting that there are many who do seem to find it upsetting.

Unless they are involved in the repairs, I can't see how expressing a few opinions is taking up much of their time. Perhaps they made them when they were off the clock.

Four pages and no on has mentioned the cost of this, and don't get me started on the cost of renovating the HOC. This should be knocked down and re-done in breeze block for a tenth of the cost!
