Played much better this week - 102 compared to 112 last week. Although I wasn't too worried about the actual score, more how I played as far as ball striking and off the tee.
After taking on board all the tips offered on here, I certainly thought it worthwhile asking.
As I said, not worried about scoring because I was trying different things, practicing etc.

I'm not usually one for stats but here are a few from the round:
Fairways hit 7, GIR ONLY 2, Putts, 35.
The most pleasing, hole 3, stroke index 1, I parred, with the best drive of the day, ideal position, sweetly struck 6 iron, just held on the green, and 2 putted.
If only I could replicate that more often!

So apart from keeping my eye on the ball, I've got to work on consistency, got to get rid of 3x7's and 2x8's off the card!!

Sorry to go on but thanks again for tips.

Good to see you are making positive steps. I didn' hit the ball great but was still in contention (see groundhog day thread). The trick is to find the tips that worked best and stay focussed. If you can get the putts down by a couple and hit a few more greens you'll be shooting mid 90's consistantly. Keep going you're going the right way

Thanks for that Homer,

I did find the 2ft zone tip really helpful, and one that I'll use all the time.

I saw your groundhog thread and whilst I can't offer you any specific golf advice, have you considered using an electric trolley? Funnily enough my mate who I regularly play with is a Diabetic and plays off 12-13 and only yesterday said he was considering buying an electric trolley as he's always shattered after a round.
Anyway, hope you're in with a chance, and good scoring.

So I'll finish as RGDave said, "Chin up mate".

i improved at the weekend as well. i've been really working on using my 8i for running the ball up to the hole rather than relying on my wedge(s) and also my 5i for putting from just off the green. Must've saved me at least 5 or 6 shots yesterday.

Now scoring regularly around 90 so i hope my handicap can come down from 25 over the season.

I love this game (at the moment) :)

Around the greens if you can get the ball onto the putting surface and running at the hole (think of it as a putt with an iron) then it is much more controllable and you'll get decent results as you have found out for yourself.

I always laugh when I watch the majority of our juniors who form anywhere inside 50 yards will reach for a sand wedge or other lofted club and try and hit high shots to the pin after clearly watching too much PGA golf on the telly. Its funny to see their ball dig in some 20 yards short (or in some cases miss the green completely). They stand there hands on hips incredulous. Play the % shot and your score will tumble. Try and play the fancy shot and you are bringing in unnecessary risks.

I agree Homer.
If you are tempted to play the lob wedge, just think 'the spectacular or the simple?'
Try playing the running chip using your putting grip and stroke and even taking your glove off.
