best putter in you opinion?

I owned a Redwood Anser and thought the feel of it was second to none!

Whay buy a copy of the best putter ever made, you want an anser style putter, buy an anser, not a copy of the original and best.

I had a Scotty Cameron Newport Beach but for the past year I have been using a Redwood Anser, in my opinion the Redwood's the better putter.

To me it seems to be better balanced and weighted. However I don't think it's a very forgiving putter, if you don't get it out of the middle on the long putts you will come up a long way short.

Sorry if I've upset any Scotty fans out there.

how much wud u expect to pick up a scotty cameron second hand mil spec newport putter for?

also would cutting the shaft down ruin the putter as im looking at making it shorter for my putting style?

theres a couple of redwoods on ebay for around £120 quid second hand. Some are different dort colours and i would want to cut them down to 33" as i want it short. Will cutting it down ruin it?

shud i just get one new?

would u buy a new model cameron rather than a second hand mil spec cameron?

If your thinking of buying new and you've narrowed it down to the 2 putters, why don't you go somewhere you can have a play with both of them and see which one you prefer. I currently use an old anser but if I was buying new it would be a tough choice between another ping or a scotty, they do look the dogs and they've got a great reputation.

My Ping Anser is pretty old now but still works great. I'm so used to it now that I doubt I'll ever change.

Just go with the flow when cutting them down, chop them off then go and play with it. If it feels light and you struggle to get the ball up, add some weight.

I chopped mine down to 32" and never added weight, it gave me the feeling that i could be much more positive especially on 6 feet and in.

As for the original question, only you can decide that. When I had my Scotty I swore that I'd never go elsewhere. Now I've got my Yes!, I'm saying the same thing.

its between the following

ping redwood / anser series

scotty cameron milspec newport

answers on a postcard and why?

The one that hits the ball into the hole most often. Could be any of the above, and nobody here knows which will work best for you.

If you chop one down, you need to add about 10g weight per inch chopped. May be best to get a professional to do it.

I have never ever understood the love in for Scotty's...vastly overpriced in my opinion but there are plenty fools that'll pay it.

Putters are no different to any other club, there isn't 1 stand out putter but there are a number of very good ones but at the end of the day if it costs you £3 and is made of cheap components but you cannot miss with it then that IS the best putter!
