Best Municipal?

I'd have to vote for the Braids in Edinburgh. There are a few good council courses in the city - I like Silverknowes - fairly unexciting but always in good nick.

It's been a few years but Torrance House in East Kilbride is good. I also vaguely remember enjoying Dalmuir in Clydebank but watch out for wee neds stealing your ball!

Heaton Park in Manchester and Braids in Edinburgh from the ones I've played.

Both excellent courses, not long by any stretch but certainly not easy!

I can't really agree;

I’d always said Sherdley was the best muni I’d played on, until I played PANSANGER at Welwyn Garden City. A lovely course and very well marshalled. Knocks all other muni’s I’ve personally played into a cocked hat

True, PANSHANGER has always had a good rep, interesting layout, generally in good condition and good VFM.

Downshire just outside Wokingham. Owned by Bracknell Forest council and a true muni. Excellent course and always in good condition.

Would second this as I think would many from round here. Played it many times.

The setting is great, overlooked by a huge Jacobean style mansion, the former country seat of the Marquis of Downshire, now a training/conference centre. The holes are well designed with plenty of doglegs, good but not severe changes in elevation, lots of nice trees, big greens and some well placed lakes and burns.

As HJS says always in good nick. Greens can be a bit slow but with the traffic it gets they can't cut them too tight.

Always an enjoyable round and a good all round test of your game.
