Best course in Glasgow area??

I'd agree with that. I think Pollok is the best course in Glasgow.

Hi Craw, is Elderslie any good. I'm up in Ayr at the end of May, and business in Glasgow for 2 days. I've had an invite here form a customer, but wondering your thoughts. I noticed its near your track.

You to Dodge, or anyone else who has played it.

Elderslie is niced enough, some nice holes but it heads up to Foxbar which is a housing scheme at the top of Paisley which used to be wild. It doesn't seem to cause the golf course much problem now but golfers used to get shot with air guns years ago.

A nice slug or dart in the jacksie was not idea preparation for a testing 5 footer!

If that game falls through PM me.

Thanks for the offer.

The customer's house actually overlooks the course - it could have been him, maybe when he was winning comps..........

The size of my arse, I dont think they would see me as a challenge. :)

Haven't played it so shouldn't comment.... but I will!

It's a good spot.... right next door to Erskine GC which is a decent course and probably a tad cheaper!

Erskine is in terrible condition at present I hear. The greens and drainage are goosed. Erskine is nice apart from a couple of stupid 90 degree doglegs which are just stupid. The first is as bad an opening hole as you'll find anywhere in GB and beyond our shores.

Not good to hear that. Some of the holes always drained badly; notably 10th and 12th but the greens were always pretty good.

You're being a bit harsh on the first although, admittedly, it's not a great hole for the uninitiated but one you need to think about rather than just thrashing your driver at and a real birdie opportunity if you play it right.

Its a mickey mouse hole, just needs a windmill and a big clowns head.

Your forced to hit a six iron off the tee to a landing area that's always littered with divots and hope to avoid the burn that runs through the landing area. Go long of the landing area and your in trees.

Sorry for me it could be improved by a couple of bulldozers and a JCB!

GCD Cawder is nice, as you say it always seems to have good greens but not as good a track as Pollok or Cathkin in my opinion.

lol! I do like your forthright opinions!

don,t know if you can pay and play , both good courses ,even the small course at cawder is good. try hayston g.c . it's like a mini glen eagles and good grub.

My gaffer has booked us in @ Haggs Castle.

I think I've played here about 20years ago, will report back after the round.

Thanks for the info gents and particularly the sign in invites, bvery generous - although the way my gaffer chunks it round would put strain on that genorosity!!! ;)

will be interested in what its like now- used to be one of THE clubs in Glasgow to play and belong to, Glasgow Open used to be there, Ken Brown won it one year with I think 22 under par. After the motorway came it went downhill fast. From memory it does have a lot of straight up and straight back down type hole layouts.
