Best board games Xmas 2017

No Carcassone played yet but plenty of time yet... Instead we’ve had:

Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective - a recent reprint of a game I’ve long wanted to play but had been difficult to get hold of. It’s excellent but we’re only two case files in and getting resoundingly beaten by Sherlock.

Ticket To Ride Europe - an established favourite.

Fungi - a two player resource building card game which would be much more fun if the woodland resource pile wasn’t so fiddly to maintain every turn.

So how did all our gaming go this Xmas period?\

Broke out Mysterium for two games and a quick game of Love Letter.

Walked the easy level of Mysterium and messed up the medium level on the last hurdle.

Wife romped away with the game of love letter.

This Friday we are hosting the in laws for a tex mex night where I’m suggesting sushi go party, trying a new menu. Followed by Incan Golf probably.

New Years off to friends house for 4 hours of party games like cockroach poker (its ace!), Coup, Cash & Guns (not my fav) and maybe something new.

Yesterday we visited family and played a fair amount of Scattergories with the odd game of Ligretto and Uno . Not sure any of those are board games though

I have a horse racing game I got for £30 a few years ago, which went down a storm up to this year and no one want to play it. :( I've seen it on e bay for £600!!!!

This year we've played Mystify, again. Anagram stuff, with a bit of guesswork for numbers round. It's everyone v the one clever clogs. :D

I picked up The Really Nasty Golf Game from a charity shop couple of years back but not found anyone to play it with yet. It looks a load of fun. It's a stable mate (sorry) of The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game - another game I have and yet to play - also looks a hoot. Anyone played either of these?

Played Speak Out on Christmas night, seriously funny game watching people trying to read comments from a card with a mouth piece in.

Got that one - yet again still to find other(s) who fancy a go. Sounds good...

Many moons ago was given a board game as a Christmas pressie called Party 'Til You Puke - a US drink-based board game - and you can make it so all get totally rat-arsed playing it. The forfeits/penalties are drinking - the reasons you have to 'pay' a forfeit are not for your maiden aunt.

Ticket to ride is super simple really. We have played it a lot.

Can only take ticket/s place trains or pick up cards to play for places trains. With almost zero setup it’s hard to think people wouldn’t want to play.

Do try castle Panic if you can, it never fails to take your team to the brink of defeat before mashing you to pieces or you scrape a victory. It’s tension is fantastic!

I have the Really Nasty Horse Racing game. Best played with friends or family who don’t get upset too easily (you can choose to play cards which can scupper a leading position for example). It’s a fun game if taken as a game. It can take a while if six are playing and you do the full six race card.

"Destination London" is a firm favourite in my house. A balance of luck, planning with a otuch of nastiness for a fun time.
Got my copy signed by the creator when in Hamleys a long time back when she had just brought the game to market.

The RNGG is like that - so I think you can draw a card that allows you to do such as chuck an opponents ball into a water hazard (without them seeing); or trample an opponents perfect drive into the ground - oh unlucky - your ball is plugged...:)
