Hi, looking for a bit of advice, with the number of balls on the market the choice is confusion with all manufacturers claiming ours is best etc etc.

Basically I'm looking for a ball that gives a bit of distance coupled with good grip around the green area and a bit of durability. I dont have a handicap at the moment but will be looking to have a handicap of 8-10 by the middle of the summer.

I'm currently using proV1 lake balls but find these are shot after 9 holes, was lookig at the Srixon AD333, any other thoughts or recommendations would be most welcome.

Keyser, stick to the ProV1's, arguably the best ball ever made, if you can afford them!
I like the Cally HX Tour but 'I skins 'em alive' - last about 5 holes.
Top ball but more durable is the Nike One Platinum, my ball of choice this season but not quite as stoppy as a ProV1.

I always like the ball that finds the bottom of the cup no matter how badly we're playing!!!

I think the ProV1's are the best ball that I've ever used!!!!

I use Warbirds as they give far better distance than Pro V1s and are half the price and last round after round rather than 18 holes then in the practice box and £3 out of pocket.

AD333's are very like Pro V1 half the price and more durable.

Ditch the Prov1, unless your pretty low I don't think you get the full benefit of them.

I would definitely vote for AD333, I would also check out the Srixon Trispeed too, a wee bit more expensive but a wee bit better at checking on the green.

What about something for the higher handicapper? Is it "anything thats on offer" until you stop losing more than a sleeve per round ;) or are there any worth shelling out a bit more for that might offer something to people playing off 20+?

Callaway Warbirds seem to be popular, they work out at about £1 per ball.

Alternatively ebay is awash with sellers selling lake balls etc. They're good value, I've bought some a few times. They work out at anything from 20p to 50p for a ball.

I do use lake/refurb balls but only when I am likely to suffer more losses such as when there is a) a lot of foliage on the ground and b) when conditions are harsh. This way I avoid getting the total arse over lost balls.

I haved Played the Pro V's and thought they were expensive and didn't offer any more than my NXT's.

How funny mwj....

I always have a brick or two lined up for that tricky "fairway wood alongside the lake" shot. A Hippo's my favourite just now, odd that considering the love of muddy lies!
Can't shake the bas****, it's guaranteed a decent ball would be into that water as quick as you could say free willy!
