For some strange reason, even though I mostly dislike the program with a passion, when I kind of accidentally listened to 6-0-6 with Ian Wright and Kelly Cates the other day I thought they were not bad. Certainly the best presenters since Danny Baker (although with 6-0-6 the bar is set pretty low) . I just thought Ian Wright mostly spoke some sense and challenged stupid callers, where as most other presenters just let them spout their inane drivel without saying anything.

If you are talking proper journalists then very few sportsmen have made that leap as there is a difference between being a pundit/presenter and a journalist. For those that have I'd say Mike Atherton and Matthew Syed are amongst the best.

Maybe because he can speak more "off the cuff", but whenever I've seen him on mainstream telly, he is just an Ingurland cheerleader.

Even on 606 he comes across as a complete fool with the tactical nous of an Alan Brazil. Just because someone was a great player does not mean they have any great knowledge of the game and certainly does not mean they can bring any great insight to the layman.

A special mention must also go to Jeff Stelling and the genius that was Sid Waddell.

Best: Hendry, Foulds

Worst: Thorne, Virgo

Weird because I could never warm to Hendry as a player, but In the commentary box he's brilliant imo.

Yep I'll go with this, Foulds has been plying his trade for years on Eurosport, good to see him on the beeb. And Hendy really does make a good commentator.

I dont mnd virgo so much, but thorne is truly awful!

The thing that winds me up about Virgo is that he says everything twice when he gets excited! His general chit chat is ok.
