I do wonder if it had been anybody else if this process would have got so far. Burglaries not being investigated. Repeated shoplifting - who cares. Antisocial behaviour. Ok I am not condoning punch ups in the street but there has to be some sort of consistency of an appetite to pursue the wrongdoer.

Easy to catch those well known for something that in the grand scheme of things wont make any difference. Give him a slap on the wrist, and move on.
Oh they cant can they, because his crime is far to trivial compared to what does get the slap on the wrist.

From what I’d originally heard I thought he might have been hard done by.

From the evidence provided so far it would seem he thoroughly deserves to be on trial.

Catch 22 here if he is charged its because of who he is .
If he is not charged its because of what he is

Not up to speed on case so cant comment with much accuracy but if ur unlucky to be caught up in affray or anti social behaviour it can be very stressful and effect ur life in a bad way
On the flip side if u offer it up or take up the offer of been hardy and get a slap . Suck it up n dont b so stupid next time

Either way if ur an adult accept consequences of ur actions . Drink is not an excuse

Sometimes the prosecution will pick a lesser charge to go for if they are worried about getting the harsher one to secure a guilty verdict. Maybe the fact the build up and the afters is all witness based is why.

I've seen pretty much the same situation after 'an incident' where I work. The police said that it's much easier to prove affray than a higher charge and it still can carry a prison sentence. The difficulty in getting witnesses to come to court and give accurate evidence was mentioned

A broken eye socket, and he wasn't charged with grievous or actual bodily harm? Lazy CPS or is it difficult to say which assailant threw which punch? Maybe that's why its affray.

I seen the original video and Stokes just wouldn't stop until the guys were on the floor. Broken eye socket eh, look at me I'm a tough guy. Lucky someone didn't have brain damage or worse.

Jurors were told #BenStokes had been angry and aggressive towards a doorman who denied him and team mate Alex Hales entry to the club despite offering him £300 to let them in.

Bristol Crown Court heard that Earlier in the evening #BenStokes had mimicked a “flamboyant, extrovert and openly gay” couple in what a witness described as a “derogatory” manner.

Opening the case against #BenStokes Ryan Ali, and Ryan Hale, Nicholas Corsellis, told jurors “It was not a moment of trivial unpleasantness it was a sustained episode of significant violence”.

No problem unless you are on the jury

Actually no, any comment on social media or similar that could prejudice the trial could result in an action for contempt of court. Unlikely when talking about a golf forum but some are skirting awfully close on twitter etc

From the reports in the news it looks like Ben Stokes is going to have a tough time keeping his career on the go, even if not convicted.

Similar to the Irish rugby players who were found not guilty in a rape trial, but ultimately unpleasant details emerged in the trial that has seriously harmed their career.

Everyone deserves a second chance, but Stokes may well need one in a few weeks.

is this the same gay couple who were in the papers in the days after the incident thanking Stokes and saying he saved them from a kicking.....?

This is the bit I don’t get. After it hit the news, the men say they were being taunted and Stokes stepped in to ‘protect’ them...so something isn’t adding up somewhere

Exactly, it’s a big change from that to him taunting them. It does sound like he was a bit of an idiot to the bouncer, but it was just drunken comments when you’re not allowed back into a place.
