i went into my local AG just to have a look around and came across a odyssey long putter. Thought i would have a go with it and it felt so right!!

I know there is alot of controversy about these style of putters but has anyone else got one here??

What would you think if the person you was playing with in a comp used one of these?

And also would you say there was an age that people start using these??

tbh, it doesn't bother me one bit, if it works for you then get one.

If I playing with someone who used one and was knocking everything in then I would get on the putting green before heading off to have a go myself.

I have one and like the idea of them. However I have a Tm spider as my main putter which I cant see past hence why my belly putter is always second fiddle. Good to use on practice rounds though.gets the pendulum working well. I am selling it by.the way to fund.another putter :p

I too went into AG and tried a few putters as my TM Rossa Agsi felt horrible off the face, walked out with an odyssey 2 ball belly putter (43 inch)

I love it, had a mare with it last week but generally I average between 30 - 34 putts per round.

Today it behaved quite well just missed a couple of 5 footers grrrrr

Go for it

I've got a belly putter and I think they're great.

As I always say, it doesn't matter what putter you use, as long as it works for you.

People state that it's cheating to use a belly/broom handled putter - they've clearly not read the R&A rules.

Get involved.

quite fancy the belly putter, it even looks 'normal' when viewing your stroke from the side, think I'll get my sc lenghthened to have a bash

I think they're the work of the devil and should be banned.

I wouldn't have any problems playing against somebody who used one because, as has been said, they're not against the rules, but they should be!!!

People say it's too late for the R&A to change now but that's just rubbish, they recently pulled back on drivers and groove sizes so why not belly putters, or at the very least firming up the grey area about not fixing the club to the body.

BAN THEM!

stop sitting on the fence will you Crow ;)

I will say that it does feel wrong using one and if they were banned I would have no qualms changing to a standard putter, I am even thinking of getting a standard 2ball aswell to see if its just in my head

how do you go about getting normal putter lengthened?

A pro could lengthen a putter for you. I would think that they put a peg in the top of the shaft. However you would also want the swingwieght (that would change if a putter was shortened/lengthened) sorted.
If you are thnking of turning a normal putter into a long putter I would think that there would be issues with the lie of the putter.
I have a two ball that I would be willing to let go. However, its quite rare and therefore cheaper examples would be available. Its a centre shaft with the line on the two balls factory printed. The reason its rare is that it has the 'tour fill' in the sole. When tour players tried them, they said that the shape of the sole made them prone to snagging - hence Oddyssey filled some in with resin.
Anyone interested? PM me.

Until the R&A come out and ban them then live with it. If you use one and it gets the ball in the hole then so be it. Personally I don't like them and I do have an issue with long putters being anchored into the body but its within the rules (not 100% convinced about the spirit though)

purely out of interest, I wonder how many posters extolling the virtues of the belly putter have previously whined about chippers?

I wonder if it's all in our heads, I tried a belly putter and thought it was the bees knees so I brought one. For a while my putting improved and I was well pleased, then slowly (over several months) my putting seemed to go downhill until it was the worst aspect of my game. After two or three games that were particularly absymal (putting wise) I decided, for yesterdays game, to leave the belly putter in the car and go back to my normal putter. Result: A PB of 94 (only broke 100 a couple of times before) mainly down to better putting. Dead chuffed with the result, but it's left me wondering whether it was just a good day or down to the change of putter.

I have a problem with chippers as I fail to see what a chipper can do that one of 5 odd clubs that players generally carry can do.

Cant say I have a problem with long putters.

I'd have no problem playing against someone weilding a belly or a broomhandle putter.
As my Mate Howeller says in this month's mag - he's never seen an amateur use one sucessfully yet.

They shouldn't be allowed, unless they are held in the hands and not anchored to any other part of the body. A chipper can be used like a normal club so that's a different kettle of fish completely.

The Gecko EuroPro Tour has banned then until tests prove they don't give an advantage.

What an absolute load of tosh! Ban them why??? Show me where in the rules of golf it says they are illegal?

Sit down shut up and live with it. These bad boys are here to stay. The end of thread.

what about when some pro's (langer the most famous) put the normal lenght putter up their arm and anchored it against their forearm? that's been done for ages with no moans about advantages or not in the spirit, you still hold the belly putter with both hands

Having to do that shows a flaw in your putting, be it mental or otherwise.
All clubs should have to be held in one or 2 hands only - if you can't do that then practice.
