Hi All

Up to about 3 months now playing and my swing is getting quite fast. You can hear the club cutting through the air on the fast swing which sounds cool :)

There doesnt really seem to be much difference in distance though between my beginner swing and my super fast new swing, but maybe that will come with time.

My normal swing is pretty consistent but its no fun :(, I prefer smashin the balls brains out, so the question is shall I stick to the slooooooowwwwwww boring swing or keep up the fun fast swing :D

Watch Girlie Golf and see how far they hit the ball with a nice slow rythmical swing. If you start hitting it fast, you are laying the foundations for trouble. That's when the dreaded slice will start.

My missus will say they cant hit it fast, coz girls have boobs and they get in the way :)

Hehe, ill slow it down a little then, until my lesson next week, thanks!

How come Phil Mickelson can hit it fast then?

I began swinging too fast recently. I bought my new irons and started hitting hooks with a fast swing. Rather than send them back and get stiff shaft I have made the decision to slow everything down a couple of notches. The result- straighter, more accurate shots and very little loss of distance.

I agree totally with that, I get much better contact and flight when I swing within myself and don't chase a shot. So much so that I now routinely take 1 more club than I think I need and try to swing sweet.Works great and I very rarely go through a green.

All but a small handfull of top women can't hit it out of their own shadow. Granted they are generally straight as an arrow, but 150yds with a 5wood.....give me a break.

Maybe that's what is wrong with them. They need a BIG handful

I've been told that the top players have a 3:1 ratio and the backswing is 3 times slower than the downswing and so as long as they are keeping that ratio consistant it doesn't matter (within limits) how fast they swing.

Jack Nicklaus' advice is "Learn how to hit it hard, then learn how to hit it straight". I would say it's a lot harder to add length to a short player than it is to straighten out a long one.

Yep. I wish I learned to smash the hell out of it. Preferably before I was 23 and out of shape.

I was much more consistent today than usual, and I know that part of that was because i was worried about a rib injury, which meant I had to focus on not hitting too hard. Consequently I was a usually a club more, slower swing, straighter and under control.

No doubt next week my ribs will have stopped aching and I'll be back to normal...
