Battery Life

How long should an 18 hole (20AH) Powakaddy battery last? Mine is just under 2 years old, I use it once (sometimes twice in summer) a week on a flat South Manchester course for just 18 holes. I put it on charge on Saturday evening after the comp, and leave it on trickle charge until I next use it.
I had a bad experience 2 years ago when my old charger became faulty and 'fried' a brand new battery. So the thought of forking out another £70 for another battery is getting to me.

My 2 previous 26ah batteries only lasted about 11/12 months, I play about 3-4 times a week not always a full 18 holes. The more charges seem to reduce the lifespan.
I've just bought a lithium battery and charger with a 5yr sliding guarantee. I intend to keep using my old battery when only playing 9 holes.
