Base layers required.

I must have half a dozen base layers of differant prices and qualitys and my UA is my fave. It is long sleeved and a higher neck. £20 from TK Maxx

Just sent a perfectly good Under Armour base layer to the charity shop - hated the high neck - my go to base layer is a cheapo G-Star thing that has a neck cut like a t-shirt - wear a 'buff' to protect the neck from wind - can't stand anything tight around my neck

Especially your wife's hands when you come home late and tanked

Can understand that, but about 20 years ago I had my head kicked in by a dozen lads in a pub in Chesterfield. Not an experience I would recommend, anyway upshot of that was a had a bone broke in the back of my neck. If my neck gets cold it can be purgatory. So the higher neck helps me. I also have a GG neck snood if it gets a good bit colder. Woman in the club shop had great pleasure telling me it is a woman's.

Mountain warehouse. Bound to be on sale in the next week or two. Restrict you for about 3 seconds and then you forget you are wearing it. Work very well, you don't pay much for them.
