As well as he's playing for Barcelona I feel he needs to do something else to go down as the greatest. Maradona won world cups and serie As with less than stellar teams, Messi needs to do something like this as well.

Messi could quite easily end up with 5 or more of them. He's already won more league championships at the age of 24 aswell. Set to make it 3 World Player of the Year awards to Maradona's 1.

But Messi plays in the best team on the planet. Would love to see him try his luck in a different league, but doubt he ever would.
Messi on the international stage is hampered by a side in the same situation as England. Plenty of top class players but unable to gel and play well in big tournaments. The side Maradonna played in was a much more together unit and was functional rather than expressive. If Maradonna didn't shine nor did they. The same is true of Messi. If he doesn't play well neither Barca of the international side look as effective

He makes them the best team in the planet though. Without him they'd be very good but no way near as clinical.
He's got no need to move really, he's already at the biggest club in the world. Close to becoming their all time record scorer aswell. He'll end up with 500 goals for them in the end. Without Barca Messi wouldn't even be a pro footballer. They took a chance on him and paid for his growth treatment when he was a teenager. Better to be a legend at one club than a gun for hire like Ronaldo IMO.

Don't agree there. He is comfortable in La Liga and he knows it.
Gun for hire you may call him, but he played in the rough and tumble of the Premier League and produced the goods. He is now in La Liga and they are 10 points clear of Barca and has more La Liga goals than Messi.
I think Messi is the better player, but feel he needs ANOTHER challenge for me to see him as the greatest ever.

I get that point but taking domestic football away for a second, the CL is the highest standard of football in this era. Messi owns everyone. No one can touch him. He's got 49 goals in the competition already! He'll be record scorer by the time he's 25.
Back to La Liga. Ronaldo doesn't play that well each week, he's normally quiet and poaches goals. Also nets loads of pens. Judging by performances, Messi is way ahead. That's why when Barca and Real clash Messi is MOTM almost everytime and Ronaldo a passenger. Ronaldo can't step up and find the next level.
