Bar levys-your thoughts.

The 2 clubs I am at have said cards but no levy,you just top the card up with what you wish with one giving you 10% discount and the other 15%.

I would gladly put on £50 as I know I would spend it and I wish both clubs would bring it in as a levy as it would hammer the twats who never ever go in the clubhouse...and there are many!!

On another point 1 of my clubs put the 2's money onto your club card which I think is a great idea as it keeps the money in the club but the other goes on an account in the Pro shop....why I do not know! What has he done to deserve getting money for nothing I ask??

Anyone else have similar thing re the two's money??

Yeh at the Royal 2oos money goes to a book in the pro shop and both my clubs have a bevy levy.

I'm against it being a compulsory thing. I understand all the reasons for it and they make sense but its discriminating against those who either can't or don't want to have a drink and a bite after a round. Some people just want to play golf and then go home - lets face it a round can last 5 hours - they don't want to use the social facilities. Why should they have to pay for something they're not going to use. Its another reason for people to not join a club.
I'm not against the cards as long as its a voluntary thing. As stated in an earlier post - I don't like being told where I've got to spend my money.

If he does I think it's fair he gets something for it.

If he doesn't then no, it's not fair

He collects the sweep and entry monies but surely that is partly what we pay him a (nice) retainer for?!

I for one would prefer if it where given to the club funds,not his.

Are the pro's paid a retainer ? If so, I didn't realise that and wondered how they made ends meet especially in the winter months.

I know were you're coming from Dodger, but I know that at my club, there is no mention of sweeps in the pro's job description.

Organising competitions, yes, collecting competition entry money, yes, but he doesn't *have* to organise the sweeps ( which are optional anyway )

So you can use it to buy goods in the shop. It's not going directly in his pocket, and yes he will make a profit, anything wrong with that? Do you not like or get on with your Pro?

We have a club card that you can use over the bar, in the restaurant( including bar snacks) and to enter comps. I dont think they are compulsory, but with a 33% discount at the bar and restuarant you would stupid not to have one. A minimum of £20 top up each time it gets low. Damn fine value me thinks!

I don't get into the complexities of club finances, so forgive my ignorance, what is the retainer for and how is it applied? At my club, I was under the impression that the Pro worked as a franchise and therefore paid a rental to the club for the use of premises etc.

I'm not against the cards. If we had them i'd have one. My point is I shouldn't be forced to have one. PLenty of people use our clubhouse/bar and plenty would have cards. But they shouldn't be forcing those who can't or don't want to use the facilities to pay.

If you have 500 members each paying £50 gives the club £2,500 in the bank on day one.

I think you might find that it's actually £25,000 in the bank on day one

£60 pre-payment per year at Cawder, 15% off drink and food if you use the card. Top up anytime. If you don't spend your initial £60 within the calendar year, you lose what you didn't spend. And quite rightly so, anyone not taking advantage of cheap food and drink and supporting their own club at the same time is not of this earth.

I would hate your suggestion. Our pro is absolutely top notch, and I am more than happy to support him.

Not just that, but if you're buying food or drink, it's just a small spend each time you don;t ever see again, whereas a 2 here and there builds up until you can buy a new putter, bag, shoes, shirt or whatever, which is great to feel you've just walked out with a 'free' something.
