Hi Guys,

Just a quick post on Ballyliffin Golf Club that we played yesterday afternoon on.

Ballyliffin golf course itself is broken up into two courses you have the old links course and the Glashedy. The Glashedy being the longer of the two and the one we played.

So here goes....

Firstly when driving upto the club house from the main road you get a great sense of something special awaiting you.. Its one of the biggest club house i have seen on my travels and is designed using old slate brick work, which adds to the history of the area and really does look the business.

anyways...

After getting our bags unpacked and sorted out our fee's ( society offer for this month 30 euro:D), which also included a pocket guide book of the course, that the pro most of done at one time, explaining where to hit to off the tee boxs too and also what to aviod, and also included details of the greens etc, (this turned out to be a great guide and very helpful).

So we made our way to the putting green at the Glashedy course to get a feel for the greens, (as you know links greens are alot faster). And before we knew it we where up..

But I am not going to bore you all with the details of my round but what i will say is this. The course itself needs a different standard/set of skills.. I myself have been on fine form of late and I found the fairways tight with so many bunkers left and right from 180yards right upto 250yards.
Then hitting into greens that can only be described as having grass so well cut and kept it was like putting/trying to land on a snooker table, but of course these where not flat infact i think i came acorss one semi flat green the whole round S.I 18 (which i 3 putted lol:o)

After the round it was back to the club house where they put on a 3 course dinner for only 18 euro. Which i would have taken myself only for the fact i was dieing with the flu (still am if not worse, but it was worth it).

Its a truely awesome setting for a golf course and i really hope some of you guys take the time to make a trip over to play it some time.

Of course there are some other courses in this area if you where to take trip am sure you wont not be disappointed. And of course I would be more than happy to sort yous out with some cheap B&B or hotels that might not be listed on the travel guides.

I've played the Glashedy links at Ballyliffin and agree
100% with everything you said. It's a stern test, but
a great course. We got a great golf breaks deal for Port Stewart (Strand course) Castle Rock and Ballyliffin.

Great part of the world, great golf, great Guinness !!

I played the Old Links last year and put it up there with Machrihanish i thought it was that good,we're going back this year to play the Glashedy, hope it's just as good.
Portstewart is a tremendous course played it 3 times last year as is Castlerock ,if your ever in that area try The Valley at Royal Portrush its another cracking course.

I used to work in Derry, and on the long summer evenings, a few of us would head over to Ballyliffin (then just one course), pay the barman about £6 and head off. The price has probably gone up since then (about 20 years ago).

Terrific old style links and a great fun course to play.
