What a great weekend, we had the weather (arms and neck are rather red), craic and some great golf played.
It was nice to see the usual faces and also a welcome for Ballyliffin newbie, Malek.
We all met up on the Friday night in the heaving hotel bar (popular spot for weddings etc), plenty of beer and banter was had and afterwards, we all headed to our rooms at an almost reasonable hour....
Saturday was warm but a little overcast as we arrived at the course for a quick session on one of the practice areas, most choosing the excellent short game area.
By the time we got teed off at noon, the skies were clearing completely and a perfect day for golf was on the menu.
We played the Old Links and quite a few of the lads recorded pretty good cards, the winner of the sweep was Stevie (Smange).
After the drunken late Saturday night of the previous year, a few of us decided a quieter night in the hotel bar was the best option if we wanted to be able to compete on the Sunday round.
As it turned out, the bar was quite busy again and we had another great evenings' craic washed down with a few pints of the black stuff.
Sunday morning arrived and after everyone managed to turn up (for a change!!! ) for a belly busting breakfast, we headed down to the club to play the Glashedy, the sun already splitting the sky and not a cloud to be seen. Saturday saw no wind whatsoever though Sunday was a little trickier with the wind coming in from the Atlantic. I can't speak for many others but my iron game left me on Sunday having played well on Saturday so was well out of contention by the turn though Smange was turning in some decent points and Stevie Gordon picking up his game after a few holes also. In our fourball, we had a little match and the two Steves easily beating bob and myself (4&3 iirc)
After the round, the cards were collected and the winner of the ICC 2013 was Bill showing his win here in 2011 was no lucky occurrence, carding 4 birdies on his round. Bill won the ICC 2013 Glass trophy, Skycaddie Gimme GPS, Golf Monthly Centenary flag and book (co written by our own Jezz!)
The Booby prize was "won" by Malek (plus Centenary flag and GM book) much to Bobs disappointment as he had been looking forward to coming last.... what a guy!
Photos below (hopefully the slideshow works when you click on the link), I would like to thank all of the guys who put their names down and followed up making the time to come up for the whole weekend, Gareth McCausland for helping out with a little green fee reduction, Golf Monthly for providing some prizes (to be posted out due to public hols here), Both Ballyliffin GC and Ballyliffin Hotel who looked after us from the moment we arrived.
This is/was my last year organising this wee event but would certainly try to support it if any of the guys want to continue on as it really is a great weekend away for brilliant golf courses, great weather and banter with a friendly bunch of lads.
Well done again to Bill (Bladeplayer), 2 out of 3 isnt a bad record for the event!!.
editted for direct images, link didnt work I hate you photobucket!
