Ball stuck half way up a plant

Hello, I'm new to this forum but I was playing in a yellow tee stableford on the weekend and on the 15th my drive got stuck up a plant, about 6 inches off the ground. I was wondering what the ruling actually is for this, do I have to play it as it lies, do I take a penalty drop or is it a free drop?

choice of playing it as it lies or of a penalty drop, sadly no free drop available, happened to me last time we were at the Forest of Arden

Brilliant, thank you for the reply. I played it as it lied to be on the safe side but it was just sods law as it was actually one of my very few good drives
