Ball moves after placing in bunker

My ball plugged in the face of a bunker. Taking advantage of the temporary relief I found a spot within 6 inches where I could place it. Went to my bag to get the sand iron and found that the ball had rolled down off the face. I played it from its new position without penalty assuming that gravity was a "natural force". Was this correct?

Had you actually placed it or were you intending to place it after you had got the club?

Yes I had placed it and it was at rest when I turned away to get the club.

Then you proceeded correctly by playing it from where it rolled to. Rule 9.3
