Hi,

Ive been playing about 6 months and am looking for some reasonable quality balls that will give me good distance off the tee, but dont cost too much. Im looking at Srixon Distance, Srixon AD333, or Callaway Warbirds. Any advice on which will give me best distance?

pinnacle gold for distance but have no feel whatsoever anywhere on the course with any club.
I play with Titleist pro v1's all year round and for winter i use lake ball pro v1's as they are 17 pounds a dozen locally rather than 11 per pack of 3. This means im not getting the same consistant distance and performance from my irons all year round (winter mud excepted for plugging)

IMHO keep away from anything that says DISTANCE, LONG, TITANIUM ..... Because although we all love to hit long drives it ccould be 330 yds but no use if it lands in the cabbage. If I were you I would buy a mid price ball such as Titleist NXT or Strata. They give you more control on the green where it matters. If you fly a 4 iron to a green using a MOLITOR, DUNLOP or similar you had better hope there is a wall behind the green to stop it, but do it with a half decent ball it should grip and give you a chance to putt.

When I started out I used Warbirds and still do from time to time. Good balls at a cheap price. I like the AD333 but the new model has gone up to nearly £20.00 a dozen. For that sort of money would rather have Titleist NXTs.

Yes, you'll never get much feel from a hard/distance/titanium ball etc but on the other hand, they should be easier to keep a bit straighter off the tee. Lack of sideways spin should help when trying to keep it on the fairway so there's a fine line between choosing a ball that will fly a bit straighter and one that will grab on the greens. Tricky.

Of course, what lots of us hackers do is play whatever we find! :D

My last post should have read this means I AM getting the same consistency.
MUTTLEEE, you should be ashamed of yourself, molitors and topflites to golf are what pigshat is to aftershave. :D

A local golf shop is selling latest model AD333s for £14.50 a dozen or Warbirds for £12 a dozen. Might get some of each and see what i prefer.

how true, though I am becoming a little more discerning - donnays go straight in the lake.
The difficulty is this. Is it the case that the more of a particular brand that you find the worse it is or is it that they are played by more people?
Top-Flites are plentiful, as are Pinnacles. However quite well represented are Titleist (inc V1 and V1x), Callaways and Nikes!
What are us poor learners to do - hit till we can't find it?

I play with the Warbird and for £12 a dozen its not to bad, the AD333 are a good ball but far to soft for me now and just don’t get the distance you need and are very unstable I find.

I play with any old (new) rubbish. I like the Callaway warbird ball and some of the Nike ones. I always like Titleist (almost any), but they are rarely a good buy.
Best rounds I ever played were with some nasty Arnold Palmer balls - "Bay Hill" titanium, and the Dunlop titanium are acceptable too.
The only balls I have taken exception to are the donnay ones from sports soccer....so terrible, they have gone straight into my bag of bunker practice balls.

Ha, Tpred bought some NXT tours today solely because of you raving on about them. if you did work for Titleist you'd be doing a good job.

They also, for some reason give you that extra bit of reassurance and pleasure when you see the word Titleist on it. You can just sense your going to cream it.

Hi redmike - you can't go wrong with Callaway Warbirds for distance, they are not just a high handicap ball either. I use them and am off 6, The Top Flites out of Tesco are fine also.

Over time you will find and use balls and discover what you like and what you don't like - try out some hard ball and soft balls to see what you prefer - that will narrow your search. The ball doesn't know your a beginner, its just there to be hit.

Hope you find something to your liking...
