The only time I've seen it is when you have to walk through the pro shop to get to the range, and so its to stop you "swapping" your bag for another set of shiny's!

Range near mine doesn't let you on with a bag I refuse to practice there and use sharply instead

I have never heard of this no bag rule. Very strange if mine did I wouldn't use it.

Same as, I use several around birmingham and never has a bag ban. Who would want to nick and use range balls!
Not sure I'd use a range if I couldn't take my bag. I've no inclination to nick a range ball and to be honest I've not seen anyone else being tempted. I'm probably wrong and don't eyeball my neighbouring bays in case of pilfering. I guess if you're that desperate to need range balls you won't be on a golf course near me anytime soon

Three ranges near me, one allows bags two don't. I only use the one where bags are allowed.

A range that I went to a while back had range balls which said on them "Stolen from the range" They were absolutely worthless aswell... Like hitting an egg thats been boiled for a couple days

Even on this thread it seems that a fair few don't allow bags (while not the majority) & that some golfers will simply boycott using that type of range.
Wonder if these business appreciate the value of their lost revenue based on the decision to prohibit golf bags versus their reason for the ban (be it 'elf & safety or stock loss)
