After my enjoyable 4-over 9 holes last Thursday night, Bob kept true to his promise and after playing 16 holes with him and Jan on Saturday I'm back to thinning, topping and swinging over the top! :( Started off well but couldn't get anything off the tee straight. Short game was better and putting was still better...So not all bad I suppose.

I know what I need to work on and I'm glad my short game practice is finally starting to pay off.

Still, looking forward to St. Pierre next week and have a round at Woodhall before then, so it's not all bad :)

not to bring up the timgolfy vs the world arguement again but..

sometimes if worthwhile drilling and re drilling the full swing long game. yes you can spend time on the short game too, but the first part of enjoying golf is getting the ball up and flying consistantly.

get that club coming from the inside and taking a divot after the ball.

maybe your just really hard on yourself but if your being honest that you do catch irons fat and thin etc then you must have a good short game to be playing off 19!

maybe better to concentrate on what way your hitting the ball to the green for a few weeks?

couple of months ago i was just getting really started the golf lark, my first summer with a club and i was struggling to play to 20, but a few pointers and a some practice on the course and the only thing left more than 15 over is my handicap. but it'll be down soon i trust.

Good short game? lol! I wish. :D

It's probably not apparent from my H'Cap, but I've been playing this game for nearly 20 years (on and off), took a 6 year absence and started back again last year. Funnily enough, my long game was always my strength and still is, but the reason it's so irratic (erratic?) at the minute is because of trying to change my swing for the 1st time ever. And my post is a bit of a follow on joke from my thread the other day. I actually hit some lovely iron shots on Saturday but I also hit some truly awful drives to balance that out - when in contrast, a few weeks ago at the Blackmoor forum meet, I couldn't miss the fairway with my driver and hit one iron shot in 27 holes (tee shot to the par 3 9th in the morning ;))

I'm not sure if I've always had an over the top swing (no one told me as a junior, I just played and got down to low-teens) but since starting playing again, It's very apparently that I do, and I want to try and get rid of it to give me more consistency. It works at times and others it doesn't, which are the perils of a high handicapper. But I can hack it enough to get me from tee to green in regulation or 1 shot worse, it's around the greens that I'm constantly letting myself down on.

I'm not expecting over night miracles, and know it's going to take time, I'm cool with that. I've not had the chance to play in as many comps as I'd like this year (currently only played in the club championship!) due to work, holidays and other commitments but I'd like to think that the work I'm putting in now should help me with a few cuts when I finally get round to playing my next comp in late august.

My short game improvements are very pleasing though as I've NEVER had a good short game, partly because I've never worked on it. I feel more comfortable pitching shots to the green and chipping onto the green from various lies.

I don't really know where I was going with this post, so apologies for the rambling I'm trying to waste time until our server gets re-booted and I can get on with some work! :D

oh right I thought you was fairly new to the game, similar to myself. humble pie for me. apologies sorry.

well you don’t need my very simplistic advise mate you’ve been through all this before im sure. Good luck getting things sorted anyway, a good score is never far away (for you probably late august by the sounds of things!).

No need to apologise mate! Alot of what you said wasn't wrong! I still have much to learn about this stupid game, But because I've been around the game for so long I expect too much from myself too quickly.

The difference this time around is that I'm enjoying it more and not letting bad shots get to me which will help me in the long term I think.

These things pass Aztecs, or at least I hope they do!!!

After a bit of a purple patch with forum meets, competitions and handicap coming down, I played the 2 worst rounds of the year last weekend in our club champs.

I counted up yesterdays bad shots. 8 hooks, 4 bad thins, 3 that I have no idea which part of the club they came off, and a shank.

Doomed.

Yea, I'm not too worried, it's all learning and practice. Will be heading to the range a couple of times this week for some drills, and will see how I get on at Woodhall this weekend and then at St. Pierre on Tuesday week.

Stupid game, but I still love it. :)
