I'm looking for some help,

Looking for one or two courses down Ayrshire that are good and a good test but not very expensive or could get a deal on for a weekend at end of March time!

Going to have a golf weekend with about 7 mates down there for just something different for this time a year and few drinks and stay so any help would be well very grateful

Largs is a nice track. Well worth the fee. Craig Tara!!! Take your own knife, if not they'll give you one on arrival. Closerto Ayr u have Bellisle, not sure how good it is now but used to be excellent years ago.

Just throw a stone in the Ayr (air) and where ever it lands you will find a good course.

You could buy Todays Golfer 2fore1 tickets and have a game at The Kintyre at Turnberry £35 each, Troon Darley also 2fore1, Troon Lochgreen and finally Dundonald Links (£50 but you can book a last minute booking for £30). At this time of year most of the courses will be doing winter rates Prestwick St Nicholas £25, Prestwick St Cuthberts £18.

All of the above courses should be in good playing condition at that time of year as they all have good sandy well draining soil.

I'd recommend Girvan. Muni with beautiful outward half just down the coast from Turnberry.

Also recommend the Troon Welbeck courses (Lochgreen, Fulerton and Darley (NB 5th hardest course in Scotland!!))

Hope the weather stays good!!

Prestwick St. Nicholas at the winter rate (ends 27/3) would be my top pick.
Kilmarnock Barassie is £35 winter rate. Good deal.

The only problem with these courses is if you wanted to play Sat. or Sun. Possibly no visitor tee times before 2.00pm.

Unless we have a drought between now and the end of March, I would avoid Belleisle. It's a great course but does get very wet.

The Troon municipals are good and the greens are usually first class. The Darley especially is a great test of golf. just don't expect any niceties like rakes for bunkers.
