Anyone have any recommendations for somewhere there is around a 1-2 hour drive from Derbyshire , for decent golf and a spa for the other halfs ? Looking towards June 2010.

Try Formby Hall Golf and Spa....can't rate it highly enough. We just came back from a weekend there with a 20 strong society from the Howdidido.com Forum consisting of 10 English vs 10 Scots!!

Anyone out there looking to organise a society outing should seriously consider this venue:

The golf course is superb and a fair test for all levels of golfer, (I recommend that you try and book before they tine the greens). It's a pretty course with around 25 stretches of water in total. The pot bunkers are strategically placed and penal and it's a course you have to think your way round very carefully. However, there are also holes where you can grip it and rip it!!

The practice facilities are excellent, (3 putting greens, automatic tee golf range, superb 9 hole par 3 course)

Great Hotel facilities with plenty to do for any non-golfers in the party, Spa, pool treatments, right by the coast, etc)

Great food and entertainment, (however try to book a night when there aren't 20 drunken English and Scots in the restaurant if you want to hear the resident singer!)

Well equipped Pro- shop which stays open to around 9 in the evening. Mark Downey the Retail Manager and the rest of the team couldn't have looked after us better. They gave us a generous discount on the courseplanners and very kindly donated a Callaway Golf bag as a prize for our Society.

Extremely friendly and welcoming staff, (especially the poor suffering, patient and understanding bar staff who must have seen it all in the past, but still treat you like special customers, even in the small hours).

Finally, value for money!! £99 for 2 rounds, Dinner, B&B. Now you can get deals like this anywhere on the web, but it's the quality of the facilities that truly makes this one stand out.

So what are you waiting for? Get organising your next society outing, (just make sure none of you party ends up locking themselves out of their room at 2:30 in the morning and ends up wandering around the hotel lobby in their boxers and socks frightening the other guests!!)
