I have been diagnosed with arthritis in both elbows, has anyone had any experience of this. If so were you able to keep playing golf, or did you have to adapt your play. Wrong time of the year to have a big problem when membership is due. Thinking of not renewing and just do pay and play over the next few months to see how it goes.

I used to play with a guy who had similar. He adapted his game accordingly. He couldn't get much loft, struggled with chipping. Luckily he played at a links course so would putt from 60yds, just hit lots of low runners to get within range. Incidentally, his pace control from 60yds in with putter was phenomenal.

He did the odd parkland round but that really didn't work for him so he stopped doing that.

How does your course suit you now? Could a move to a links be an option, could it help you?

I think you will have to accept the shots you can and can not play and work with that.

Best of luck, I hope you can find a compromise that keeps you playing.

Yes I have for about 18 months. Shoulders ,elbows and fingers
I have good and bad days.

I have been swimming a lot that really helps.
Can’t practice any more and have gone from 6 to 11 handicap ,had a shocking season last year.

But I’m adapting the way I swing and am playing ok again.
I won’t get back to 6 but single figures is my goal.

So don’t give up !
You need a routine to keep the joints moving don’t just sit around doing nothing.

Graphite shafts might help
Good luck.🤞

I suffered an injury a few years ago which means I can never swing how I used to.
I have had to adapt my game totally and it feels like starting out again in a lot of respects.
I just treat it as fun and learning all over again.
Some days I play well and others I play rubbish.
Much as every golfer really.

Yes you can carry on but it depends on your mentality and an acceptance that you will have to relearn a lot of the game.
That will also bring its own rewards though.

Treat it like a new adventure and enjoy learning all over again.

Los of different types of Arthiritis' and different prognoses often joints are best kept mobile. I would consult with your doc or physio,

I have arthritis in my right elbow and both knees but it doesn't prevent me from playing golf. Having a total left knee replacement next month and my only concern is how long it will be before I can play 18 holes again!

My mate ex international footballer and good golfer had his done .
He went from 8 to 3 hcap in the next 6 months.

He said “ playing for the first time in years pain free was a godsend”

Do the exercises before you have the op and rehab properly you will be back playing in no time.🏌️

It may not help, or it may. Hope it does
Try turmeric tablets. One a day. Several I know say it helps.
Worth a try. If it doesn’t help, you haven’t lost anything .

Having watched one of the 'Truth About' programs on the box they said you need to take table spoons of Tumeric daily to make a difference.

A someone who had loads of mobility and various joint problems since my late teens I still say you cannot beat anti-inflammatory drugs but take them with care.

Though I have reached the stage where I sometimes have months off playing more frequently than I used to.

My doctor told me I could take Ibuprofen for my arthritis but it would affect my kidneys.

I take two to play golf but not any other time.

That is what I was on about with 'take care'. I take Omeprazole in the morning and take the tablets always with food some food before taking them and some immediately afterwards.

I have regular blood tests to monitor any effects on liver and kidneys.

Had chronic tennis & golf elbow in my left arm for nearly 3 years now. Recently went private in London with a Mr Brian Cohen. Sent straight to MRI facility across the road which showed debris inside the joint. Now having shockwave therapy weekly (max 5-6 sessions). It appears to be healing slowly & I can actually play two days in a row for 1st time since 2023 🙏
If it doesn’t fix the problem entirely, I’m down for a blood plasma injection back in London. Anything but Steroids. Last chance saloon will be invasive surgery to remove the debris.
Have worn an elbow sleeve for 18 months, which has allowed me to play, albeit with acute pain. Brand is Bauerfeind https://bauerfeind.co.uk/products/b...8E15yFhfIJqn9vTyoyHuPZ9NihlZyLXgaAhHcEALw_wcB Not cheap, but works perfectly. Good luck with it all. I’ve been very frustrated for years now 🤞

Well, as I say,it is merely anecdotal evidence, so all you can do is try it. If it don’t work , you’ve obviously gained nothing….BUT, importantly , You’ve lost nothing.
If you don’t try it, you’ll never know. 😁
Politicians are fond of saying …” there is no evidence that……..”,
But we know different, don’t we?😉😂

Had let knee in 2019 and right knee in 2024, was playing in 6 weeks with a golf cart, three months walking 18 holes.

I have Psoriatic Arthritis. Mainly effects my larger joints but also my right wrist and hand for thirty years my lower arms and legs were covered in skin lesions that cracked and bled all the time. I have tried all the biological's, Enbrel, Humira and traditional remedies. Nothing helped. I cannot explain how painful it was. Just walking down a fairway and my legs would crack and bleed. Found a drug called Taltz in October. Life changer. No lesions, scaling ot bleeding anymore and humiliating constant flaky skin people would make fun of and inflammation down I would say 80% I have ha to learn a new game, sometimes playing from the 5300 or 5800 yard tees, on a good day I can manage 65000. Changed my gear up so I now have (in my non vintage set) a 13 degree Ping G400 Driver, a 23 degree Ping G400 9 Wood, an old 1998 27 degree Callaway Steelhead 11 Wood, a Ping G30 6 hybrid at 30 degrees and then Ping G30 7-PW,UW in 5 degree increments from 30-50 degrees, and custom built 56 and 60 degree blade wedges. And my trusty but ancient Ping Anser putter. All the Clubs have senior flex graphite shafts (the 56 and 60 A Flex steel shafts.) I did try some very oversized grips and in the end settled for Golf Pride Tour Velvet Midsize +4 that reduces the overall taper

Although a good drive now is 210 yards, clubhead speed is 82mph with a driver and about 66mph with a 7 iron and I only use lofted fairway woods and hybrids, it has kept me in the game. Arthritis is not easy to play with but you can do it. If you can at least work with a pro on getting the right shaft lengths, lies and flex it will really help. I am still a Ping Black color code but we found a set of used irons one half inch longer than standard. After experimenting, we also cut an inch off the driver so it plays 44.75 inches. In my case reading swingweight did not make a real difference in accuracy but going to the shorter length has given me some of my old yardage back. And I am now walking the course again with a three wheel push cart.

SO depending on your arthritis it may be life changing but I am sure you can adapt and still enjoy the game. 3-4 mornings per week I am still part of the fun competitions members have and they handicap me accordingly of the 5300 or 5800 yard tees while they usually (and occasionally, I) play he 6000 yard tees. I still play the monthly medals, too. Currently planning my strategy for practice and play for the summer but as I turn fifty this year and now for the first time in fifty years have a body that doesnt look like a reject from Baron Frankenstein, it i time to make the most of it!

Yep, I switch switched to jumbo grips and graphite shafts years ago, I keep warm, take various supplements and can play three times a week with out too much pain. Obviously everyone is different but it's possible to play a lot
