The UK army will now take additional money from the poorest paid soldiers to help officers earning over £33k

Bearing in mind those officers based in Scotland already receive much better benefits than those living in rUK regarding university fees, health care, additional child care, free elderly care, toll/parking charges, prescriptions etc etc.

Were does your 33k come from? Report says 26k and it’s all ranks above that, not just Officers.
You lose credibility when you put your slant on facts.
Nobody is losing money the money will come from the government meaning a Pte in Cornwall will earn the same as a Pte in Stirling, a Major in Cornwall will be paid the same as a Major in Stirling.
Please also bear in mind a Pte is also to get the same benefits you quote for the Officer.

I am struggling to see what point you are trying to make.

How many of the better benefits you list have relevance to serving members of the Armed Forces?

Couple of things from your post

Medical care - they get it from on base medical facilities so irrelevant if it’s cheaper in Scotland
Prescription- free for all military no matter where you are

Child care etc etc all ok base facilities

And you mention taking money from junior ranks to give to officers ? Struggling to see where they say that ?

Perscription charges are applied to members of HM Forces where appropriate. I appreciate that this is free in Scotland but you give the impression that its a freebee.

Child care, even if it is on base is payed for at normal rates. Are you saying that child care in Scotland is free for everyone.

Where are you getting your facts from.

This is all to do with the difference in income tax between England and Scotland and ensuring those in Scotland are not disadvantaged just because they are posted there.

For those between 26k-33k they are no worse off (on a solely income tax basis) than the rest of the UK due to different allowances. So nobody earning under £33k pays a penny more. Don't expect the BBC to be truthful on that though.

indeed, and that's how Doug 'red card! red card!' Ross would like you to take it, forgetting of course that his base figure is wrong, and that there is far more benefits provided by being in Scotland than not.

There is a slight anomaly with the figures where someone earning £26k pays pennies more [well used by the unionist press :whoo:] but the main figure is £33k

Cheers, maybe doon could of explained it as you’ve done.

The UK govt is to top up the pay of those in the armed forces that are now subject to the new income tax regime imposed by the Scottish govt.

Shock of shocks! UK govt supports Scotland when it’s own govt screws up taxation for those in a UK wide organisation. Who’d have thought. Tory govt in Westminster would do something to benefit Scotland:rolleyes:

You forgot to mention the bit where the ARMY takes money off lowly paid privates to increase the pay of well paid officers.

What a laughable interpretation of this non-issue drummed up by red-card-Ross.

This spot on

Read the link...…….especially the bit where the Defense Minister says all UK troops will be paid the same.
To do that he will have to reduce the tax benefits to lowly paid soldiers stationed in Scotland.
Rubbish, as explained all British Army Ranks are paid the same rate regardless of were they serve in the world.
You are unbelievable and you have the cheek to throw credability at me!
Try sticking to facts to back your point up.

The article forgot to mention that too.

Assuming the BBC are not misrepresenting anything, and assuming my reading comprehension is not failing me, I read it as the people who would lose out on the new system will be topped up, but those who would gain won't be punished.

So actually the lower paid soldiers based anywhere but Scotland are worse off, and the headline should be "UK to transfer £4m to Scottish treasury" as the MOD is paying the additional tax higher paid soldiers would incur, so their take-home remains as it was before the tax changes and as it is in the rest of the UK.
