Are you serious?? FIFA Interactive World Cup???

Sorry but that's not even close,

to perform like for like skills, one needs more training. Give 10 youngsters the ball on the half way line and get them to play a crossfield pass in real life, how many would manage it. Then tell them to do it on FIFA and see which is more successful first time.

I could play almost every tiger woods course 18 under as a kid within a year of owning the game. I can't get anywhere near par on the course in real life.

thats not to say the best gamers don't practice loads. But ask yourself this. Do you want a trained soldier on the front line, or the one with the best k/d ratio in COD?

So if you hadn't wasted your time playing TW you'd be able to shoot 18 under now?

God dam you TW 😂

I'm not comparing the actual skill involved - if that were the basis of sport and entertainment we'd only watch the sport that requires the most skill or physical exertion. That certainly isn't football.

My point was that it's easy to be facetious about the skill involved in anything, but it doesn't mean it shouldn't be admired or performed by those who enjoy it.

Amateur golfers in "be snobbish" shocker.

I really don't think the majority of kids will prefer it rather than doing the real thing.
Teenage boys have access to lots of things on the net,but I'm sure they prefer doing it for real😂.

I'm not saying they will, it was a response to previous claims it'll be as big in 5 years.

I don't think many (not none) have questioned the skillset, simply its place.

Imo a sport, any sport should involve physical exertion.

Anything else is a game.

When i was younger golf was a game to me. There were exceptions such as PLayer, but far to many didn't look like sportsmen to me.

The same with gaming, they could all be 20's who spend half their time in the gym and half their time gaming. But if doesn't require fitness to do, so for me it's a game. One that require skill, but a game nonetheless.

I've only ever seen things like FIFA, COD, CS etc referred to as esports - a term in its own right.

Plus, even if they are considered sports, the definition of words evolve and often mean different things to different demographics at different times.

No need for snobbery.

I play games on the PS but there is no way in hell that it should be take that seriously. It doesn't warrant tv coverage at all.

That's because you're probably not naturally gifted enough to be playing at their level ;)

I was lucky enough to catch yesterdays semi's and grand final, to be honest I wasn't even aware it was on, just pure chance I turned on to that channel as the programme title looked interesting.
I actually cheered when Gorilla scored a crucial goal in the final :o :whoo:, as a gamer I found it utterly captivating. Who cares whether it's called a sport or not, it's here, and here to stay in a big way.

Best programme on tv? First Hour on the GINX channel.

How is not agreeing with the name or description of something snobbery. That's faux outrage if ever i saw it.

I agree things evolve, todays Olympics are a far cry from their origins. But if esports, games or whatever name they have make their way to the Olympics it'll make a mockery of it imo. Although i'd imagine the participants would all be clean lol

It will be as big. The IEM World Championship drew 173,000 fans, a growth of 60,000 compared with the previous year. Online it gathered 46m unique viewers, a growth of 35% compared to last year. ESports are growing at an absolutely rapid rate that far exceeds almost any sport in the world. The only sport that has seen this sort of growth in the last 10 years is MMA.

Let's not get it twisted though, the growth of e-sports doesn't mean traditional sports will die out, or it will kill other sports off. Again, it's not one or the other.

It certainly has a place, but all most successful things grow faster at the begining. Ufc as mentioned has had a rapid growth, but will stall evenutally and find a place towards the top of combat sports but still nowhere near the mas viewing figures of mainsteam.

Imo esports will do something similar, will grow to have a hardcore viewing, but dont see people tuning in for a final like they would a world cup or golf major (even if shown on primetime bbc 1 instead of eastenders)
